For best results with area mask, make the emitter width and height the same as the mask image size. If that still doesn’t do it, make the emitter, mask image, and stage size all the same, and put the emitter in the center (r-click on the position graph and “reset”).

April 13, 2007 at 2:19 pm in reply to: particleIllusion 3.0.5 for Mac OS X released!

Even 3.0.4 and earlier versions works on Intel Macs — just under Rosetta.

If you purchase pI3 for OS X today, you’ll get 3.0.5, which is Universal (runs natively on Intel Macs).

The problem is with the updater (what you use to update 3.0.4 to 3.0.5). The one I released a few days ago (and removed from the server quickly) does not work correctly.

I am still working on this issue — hope to have it resolved today or tommorrow. If I can’t get it resolved then, it will have to wait another week until after NAB.

Yes, but you have to think backwards. You can create the letters first with particles, then have them float down. Then after you render, reverse the order of the frames (in another application).

Use the “area emitter mask” feature to create the particles in the shape of your text.

  • Just use a deflector along the top of the sphere.

You could add forces instead of deflectors — you may need to use a combination of both.

They’re in the other library files. You can only have one library loaded at a time.

Use the quick-load library list to switch libraries, use “load library”, or use the liibrary manager.

April 12, 2007 at 7:42 pm in reply to: Final Render Size

    1) Set stage size to 4000 x 1500 pix in Project Settings.
    2) Work in pI3 zoomed out until everything is how you want it and save project
    3) render project file in pIllusionRender.

Output should be 4000 x 1500 (the same size as the stage settings).

If you’re on a Mac, you may be limited to 2048 x 1500. This would be a limitation of you graphics card driver.

    Ok, I’ve fixed the problem.

Download the catalog again and it will work in Firefox now.

I really don’t know why it wouldn’t work on ANY browser. It is about as basic as html gets these days, and just references images in folders.

I’ll have to take a look at it in Firefox on Mac.

  • Bill,

This seems like almost the exact same question you asked a few days ago. Elvis answered that one, but I’ll do it again.

Particle type shapes (images) can contain a single frame, or multiple frames. Take the example of the “mouse” emitter in the default emitter library — it has multiple frames. The same thing with the “words” particle type, with each shape (image) being a different word.

To change out the words with the least amount of hassle, first open the properties dialog for that emitter (add it to the stage first), then select the particle type with the words that you want to change. Click the “change shape” tab — the size of the images used in that particle type is shown right above the preview of the image (something like: “256 x 64 385KB”). That’s the size you’ll make your new images (in Photoshop or any other paint app). Make your text white on black, then save each image in a lossless format (like PNG or TGA). Name each image sequentially (myimage001.tga, myimage002.tga, etc.). Then when you import the new shape, pIllusion will detect it as an image sequence and ask if you want to use the sequence. Answer “yes”.

    I hope that’s enough info.

Can you please email your crash log to wondertouch support? The crash log probably has “iPatcher” in the name (but I don’t know for certain because it didn’t crash on any of my test machines) and would be in your User\Library\Logs\CrashReporter folder.

    Thanks!
