Just to be clear, the updater itself is crashing, not particleIllusion 3.0.5 after updating, right?

You’re using “break” wrong. “Break” means “this is the new reference point for any layer offset animation”. Here are the correct steps you should take:

    1. New – start from clean sheet
    2. Add an emitter somewhere close to the centre
    3. move forward 4 frames
    4. Click on offset and click an new offset position close to the old one (The offset moves and the emitter moves by the offset and the little dots appear for the intervening frames – Good)
    5. Move one frame forward and click on the stage to set a new offset position (on the new feature you want to “track”). The emitter(s) will jump to the wrong position — don’t worry.
    6. Right click on the new data key in the Layer Offset graph and select “Break” — the emitters will move to their correct position.

You should probably read the Layer Offset section of the docs again.

Can you post any images of what a real one looks like? I can’t visualize it.

April 10, 2007 at 12:45 pm in reply to: Emitter Catalog Searching

[razors] “Only downside is, like the catalog. naming is based on the original names, and not the names of emitters you might have changed – likewise with new libraries you may have created”

That’s because CatalogSearch is for the catalog, which is for the emitters we release only.

It’s the first in a series of steps. The next step will be useful for all of your emitters and libraries, not just the ones in the catalog.

Please explain (in words) what the problem is, and what you’ve done so far.

If you start a new project and add an emitter at frame 1, do you still see the problem? I’m guessing no, so…

What frame are you working at? If you’ve got a 10-minute video, and are trying to add emitters near the end, it’s going to take forever — this is not the way to use pIllusion.

Instead, break up your long video into shorter clips (only the shots that need particle effects), load a clip, add the effects, then put everything back into order in your video editor.

    I said “TGA or PNG” didn’t I? 😉

I don’t usually use TIFF because there are too many different “flavors”, and particleIllusion doesn’t support all of them.

  • Doesn’t it need to be a “single” particle too?

Did you save it as PNG or TGA? If you used a different format, I’d suggest one of those two.

I’m not familiar with those shows — you need to post an image or movie if you want us to know what you’re talking about.

particleIllusion is a standalone application that you can use with After Effects and any other compositing/editing software. There’s more info here:
