  • Is it a stage emitter that you’ve opened the properties dialog for, or the library? I’m guessing library. Try a stage emitter instead.

  • What OS are you using? What version of particleIllusion? What are the exact steps you’re taking? At what point does it crash?

  • The TGA file is fine, believe it or not. The difference is in the viewing — Gimp in this case, or possibly in the options you used when rendering in pI3.

The TGA image shows that you used the “remove black…” alpha option, but are not displaying the alpha channel in Gimp. This doesn’t mean that the alpha channel is not there.

To check that the alpha is really there, bring the rendered image into pI3 as background footage for a layer, then make the background color non-black.

I’m going to need somebody else’s help here, as I rarely work with fields. It’s quite possible that there is a bug in pI3’s fields output, so I’d first suggest some simple tests in pI3.

    – Don’t import any video — just a simple project with a single emitter. No motion blur. No alpha channel. Render with fields and see what you get in Premiere (or wherever you saw the issues).

If that didn’t work, try the other fields setting.

If one of those worked, try turning on motion blur and rendering again. If that worked, try alpha channel output too. (I expect that if there are issues with fields output in pI3, they’re due to some combination of motion blur and alpha channel, which is why I want you to check these and see at what point it “goes bad”.)

The Matrox RTX100 is not a video output card (it is not the card that provides the DVI or VGA interface to your computer monitor). What is your graphics card? particleIllusion relies heavily on OpenGL, so the performance of your card’s 3D hardware when using OpenGL is important.

So you created several point emitters and arranged them in an “arrow” shape? You might be able to use 2 line emitters instead, but you’ll have to adjust the particle angle so they align correctly.

I’d really love to see a specific example of the footage you’re having trouble with.

Yes, you need to add an emitter before Offset becomes available, but if that first emitter is just a “garbage” emitter, what does it matter what happens to it?

It still concerns me that you say it “disappears” — as that should never happen if you’re using “break” correctly.

You’ve worked through the simple example in the pI3 docs on Layer Offset to make sure you understand how to use it, right? You only use “break” when you need to “reset” the offset to a new “tracking point” — if the point you were tracking is no longer visible.

  • Do you mean that these are the DPI values being reported in the image files produced? If so, switch to creating TGA in pI3 and see if that helps.

There’s a bug in pI3 for Windows that doesn’t set the DPI value, so image formats that use it are getting “garbage” values there.

Did your “Emitter Libraries” folder get renamed? Did all of the files in it get deleted?
