We’ve found that if you have the Panasonic DV codec installed, 3.0.2 will crash when loading DV AVIs. So the answer (for now) is to remove the Panasonic DV codec either using a tool like Codec Sniper, or by using Windows to remove the codec.

SE is missing the “Layer Offset” feature that 3.0 has that allows you to follow a point in the bg video, and all of the emitters and particles move with that.

BUT… you might still be able to do it in SE using the “Attach to emitter” option for each particle type. Just takes a little more work, and it only works under certain conditions.

Oh, I just read your post again, and it won’t work for you. It only works if you have a stationary object that is emitting, and the camera is moving. (Can’t have both camera and object moving).

    Bob,

Download the following file and run it. You’ll get a “command prompt” style window. L-click on the icon at the left corner of the title bar of the window after it runs (before pressing a key to close the window), choose Edit> Select All. Then Edit> Copy. Then paste in an email and send to support at wondertouch dot com.

Does the DV clip contain audio? If so, try importing the clip without audio, and see if that loads in 3.0.2.

The displayed codec will be greyed out until you specify an AVI file as output (please read the updated docs). If you’re saving an image file, both the AVI codec and WMV preset will be greyed out (think of it as “unhilighted”).

The only thing I can think to try is to use the Registry key that was indicated in that other thread, and instead of setting it to “0”, set it to “1”. Then try “2”, etc.

I still think the key to all of this is that you have a bad codec that is causing problems. Instead of using Codec Sniper, try just using Windows to list the codecs installed. In XP, you do this by the really intuitive method of:

    1) Control Panel – Sound and Audio devices
    2) click the “hardware” tab
    3) scroll down the list and select “video codecs”
    4) click the “properties” button
    5) in the “video codec properties” dialog that shows, select the “properties” tab

It won’t show you which are “bad”, but you can remove codecs from here.

You’ve definitely been to the Matrox website, and have the latest drivers? I went there and guessed that you have a Parhelia 128 MB, and the latest version is May 17 2007, ver. 2.04.00.179. If that’s not the version you have – download it and install it and that may solve everything.

What’s happening: It seems that the fix we put in to get accumulation buffer working on ATI cards (so HQ motion blur would be enabled) has caused your card to drop into software rendering — nothing is hardware accelerated (that’s what “Microsoft Corporation GDI Generic” indicates).

Please email wondertouch support directly and we’ll figure out what to do.

Make sure you’re in “Select” mode, not “Add” mode. Press “A” to toggle or use toolbar button. When in “Add” mode, all clicks add a new emitter.

Here is the link. Unzip into your pI3 folder (where the particleView.exe is).
