There’s a preference “use new method of loading AVIs”. Check it (or uncheck it if it’s checked) and try again.

I’m not really sure what you’re asking. You can load a video into particleIllusion then apply the effects and render together, or you can turn off the background image and render the particles alone with an alpha channel. Just make sure you choose an output format that supports alpha, and check the “save alpha” option in the output options dialog.

No, just the html docs. If you switch the index (left column) to “alphabetical” using the link at the top, that may help you find what you’re looking for.

Don’t use “shrink” — it doesn’t give great results, and is an older workaround.

The “remove black background” is a way to make a “straight” alpha as opposed to “premultiplied”. Here’s a great video explanation of this by Aharon:

    https://library.creativecow.net/articles/rabinowitz_aharon/straight_vs_premult.php

“Create non-intense alpha” is something that you’ll only find in particleIllusion, as it’s intended to work around a problem with the original method of generating alpha channels. The docs explain it quite clearly I think.

February 26, 2008 at 4:29 pm in reply to: Lagarith on Windows Vista

Does Lagarith show up in other applications that save AVIs? If so, I assume you’ve closed particleIllusion and ran it again?

If it’s not showing in other apps, then I’m not sure what to do — perhaps Vista is preventing it from registering.

Were the demo and non-demo versions you tried the same version number (3.0.6)?

If so, there’s no reason why they both wouldn’t work the same.

[Allen Kaufman] “The Demo ran fine – very disappointed to discover missing emitters showcased in the demo not found in the retail version and in the software’s overall performance”

Which emitters are present in the Demo library but not in the released libraries?

If you are using 3.0.6 and are having issues (crashes or performance issues) *please* email support at wondertouch dot com and detail them for me!

Ah — we only enable alpha channel output for AVI codecs that are on an internal list. We’ll have to add the Canopus lossless to that list in the next update.

Anybody else have any codecs that they know supports alpha channel, but particleIllusion doesn’t enable the “save alpha” option for?

The ONLY solution to this is to make sure you’re using the best video drivers for your card. Usually this means that you should use the latest drivers offered, but in some cases the latest drivers cause problems. If they do, and if they are “beta” drivers, you’ll need to instead use the newest non-beta (“released”, “qualified” — different names are used).

It is best to get these drivers directly from the manufacturer’s website. If you’re using a laptop, you’ll probably have to get the drivers from the laptop manufacturer’s website, but if it’s a desktop machine you’ll want to get the drivers from http://www.amd.com (if you have a card made by AMD/ATI), http://www.nvidia.com (if your card uses an NVidia chipset), etc.

[Randall Lee] “I edit with Canopus 3.5 and I get the same results with Canopus lossless as well”

I’m not sure what you mean. “Same results?”

The Lagarith download at this site has an .inf file in the ZIP:

Are you just using different layers of emitters? Then it shouldn’t matter which is active when saved — they all should show on the stage and when rendered.

It could be a bug — what version are you using?

Can you describe the project in more detail? Can you get the problem to happen with a simpler project (2 layers)?
