The “WARNING A/V Mismatch” prompt appears if you select an audio or video that cannot be combined. You are likely seeing this prompt if the settings in the CONFIG menu parameters have been changed for either the video input or the audio input. Please refer to the Ki Pro manual for information on the specific settings. As an example: if you set the input video to SDI, but the audio input to HDMI, the A/V Mismatch prompt will appear. SDI and HDMI cannot be mismatched in terms of their respective embedded audio. Analog audio or digital audio matched to the video source can be used for recordings.

Additionally, Ki Pro offers support for a wide variety of formats and framerates. AJA owns a Sony PMW-EX1, and it works with the camera’s HD-SDI output for the 720p as well as 1080i outputs, including 1080i 29.97fps (1080i 59.94 fields) signal. 1080i 60 (1080i 30fps) is not supported however. With updated firmware on the Sony PMW-EX1, the camera can even output 1080PsF 23.98 video.

Typically, we find that users have the easiest time accessing the device from Safari or Firefox if they try the following procedure:
First, perform a direct connection from your computer to the Ki Pro LAN port via an ethernet cable. Second, open the System Preferences on your Mac and select Network.
Third, select the ethernet port from the list of connection ports and then in the Configure IPv4 area, set the pulldown to “Manually.”
Fourth, enter the standard default IP address for a host: 192.168.0.1 and the standard subnet mask value of: 255.255.255.0

You should see the Ethernet port condition on the left hand side go to green and indicate “Connected.”

On the Ki Pro itself, be sure that you have set the CONFIG menu parameter 50.1 IP Config to Static Address.

Now, from your web browser, Safari or Firefox, enter the IP address of 192.168.0.2

After a second or two the Ki Pro web UI should appear.

For Edit to Tape you should not be changing the Capture Offset, but instead the Playback Offset in the Device Control Preset Editor.

You can certainly use the component output on the KONA for high quality monitoring. The only major consideration would be the distance you intend to run the cable to the monitor as analog video degrades over longer cable runs. If the distance is fifteen feet or less, and a high quality video cable is used, you should not experience any form of degradation in the image quality.

Kim and Jeremy,
One way to record audio using the Ki Pro without using an input video source is to turn on the Video Signal Generator provided in the Ki Pro CONFIG menu. This will produce a video test pattern, like color bars, and then you can input your audio source via the XLR inputs. The resulting file will be color bars with your desired audio recording.

Jeremy is correct though; you need to produce some sort of video signal to go with the audio as the QuickTimes produced by Ki Pro always produce audio, video and timecode tracks. The use of the signal generator would seem to be good solution for your needs in this case.

You should contact AJA technical support for assistance via phone or email on Monday. Based on the size of the file you created, I would suspect that perhaps the storage module was removed incorrectly and then an attempt to write new files to it was made. If you have ever removed the disk without hitting the SLOT button, then it’s possible that this is the cause of the issue. The easy first step would be to back up your existing media, reformat the storage module in the Ki Pro, and see if recordings operate as expected.

I would also suggest checking which firmware version your unit is running and update to the most recent version available from AJA.

The SATA connection is only meant for connection of the Storage Module to the Ki Pro unit. Using the SATA connector to try to connect to anything other than the Ki Pro is not supported; connection to computers for data transfer should only be done using the FireWire 800 connector on the Storage Module.

You should contact AJA tech support if you are still having issues. Note that the Expansion Slot Utility identifies the KONA cards as x8 lane cards, but they are in fact x4 lane PCIe cards and work at x4 lane speed.
