October 25, 2010 at 7:27 pm in reply to: Resolution Issues over the AJA ioHD

    Andree,
I would recommend that you contact AJA technical support for assistance. You mention using the Panasonic AJ-HD1400 VTR which is an HD device that could be configured to output SD, so perhaps it\’s a simply a setting on the VTR that needs to be addressed.

Again, please feel free to contact AJA technical support for assistance.

October 25, 2010 at 7:21 pm in reply to: IoHD but not FCP

    Alan,
The AJA Io HD product was made in special collaboration with Apple. It is designed to work with Final Cut Pro.

If you are considering working with other non-linear editing softwares, you should consider the AJA KONA or AJA Io Express products which offer cross-platform functionality as well as support for a wide variety of non-linear editing applications, among then Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and Sony Vegas.

    Miguel,
The AJA Io serial number is found on a sticker that will begin with a letter, like G, and then 5 digits following that.

October 20, 2010 at 5:00 pm in reply to: KiPro MINI power options mounted to HPX 170?

    Randy,
There are a wide variety of possible mounting options. Since you want to power both the camera and the Ki Pro, you will likely want to look at the adapter from Anton Bauer, the QR-DVX:
    https://www.antonbauer.com/Products/QRDVX

Note that this adapter does not have a mounting plate and it’s a “pouch” adapter, but you can often take the back plate off of the Anton Bauer plate portion without issue via the 4 screws on the plate; once the back is removed, screw into whatever adapter plate you elect to mount to.

To get from an Anton Bauer battery plate to the Ki Pro Mini 4-pin XLR, you would simply need a P-Tap to 4-pin XLR cable. We recommend cables that use a straight, not angled XLR connector and that are not overly long just to make cable management easier. A good example would be the PC-5 listed on the Hawk Woods website:
    https://www.hawkwoods.com/products/cables_and_plugs/power_con_cables_and_plugs/power_con_cables_and_plugs.php?mainMenuItemToSlide=11

If you are looking for an ergonomic shoulder mount solution, there are many on the market, but you might look at something like the Switronix HDV-Pro/AS Shoulder Mount, where you could likely swap out the standard battery plate for the Anton Bauer plate specific to your HPX170 as listed above:
    https://www.switronix.com/products/batteries?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=77&category_id=41

This particular shoulder mount also features a wireless mic mount which the Ki Pro Mini with Mini Mount Plate could be attached to for easy slide on/off use.

The heart of mounting the Ki Pro Mini to anything – or mounting anything to it – is the Mini Mount Plate. The plate features a wide variety of tap holes and slots to make mounting to pretty much anything easy. You can see the mounting plate used in a variety of ways in the Ki Pro video at the following location on the AJA website:
    https://www.aja.com/products/kipro/ki-pro-mini/ki-pro-mini-description.php

If you wanted to explore other options for mounting accessories to your camera, you could look at companies like Zacuto – https://www.zacuto.com – which makes a wide range of options or simpler choices like the BEC Group mounting plate, BEC-DVCAMB-HD:
    https://www.thebecgroup.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=58&language=

Finally, if you don’t want to rear mount the Ki Pro Mini, you could also elect to mount it toward the front of the unit with a small hot-shoe arm that uses a 1/4-20 threaded screw, like this unit:
    https://www.ikancorp.com/productInfo.php?id=58

By no means is this list complete; there are many more options from other companies not listed here.

Hopefully this information is a good starting point for you.

October 13, 2010 at 4:59 am in reply to: AJA- No Video Channel

    Miguel,
You should consider contacting AJA technical support for assistance. One possibility is that you had Final Cut Pro and the Log and Capture window open in the background when you were trying to use VTR Xchange; only one application can access the video input for the AJA Io at a time. Or if another similar input application was trying to access the AJA Io, this could also happen. Other signal routing or video format/framerate issues could be the cause of such a prompt if certain selections weren’t made in the AJA VTR Xchange application, etc. Can’t say for sure based on the information provided.

Again, best to contact AJA technical support for assistance.

October 12, 2010 at 7:21 am in reply to: AJA Kona LHi with KL Box

    Daniel,
You are simply using the incorrect breakout box for the KONA card that you have in your system. The breakout box for the KONA LH/LHe products should not be used with the KONA LHi; the two products differ as you yourself note.

The appropriate breakout box for your LHi is listed on our website, KLHi-Box for KONA LHi:
    https://www.aja.com/products/kona/konalhi/images.php

If you need additional clarification about which breakout box can be used with which product, simply contact AJA directly via phone or email.

    Hope this is helpful.

October 5, 2010 at 3:28 pm in reply to: LHe HD playback issue

    Craig,
It sounds as if your KONA LHe is not configured to receive enough bandwidth from the machine. This is possible if the card is in an older Mac Pro that uses the Expansion Slot Utility application to determine slot speed. For the proper configuration on older machines, as well as newer machines, you should visit the AJA website Support page for the KONA LHe and on the right hand side of the page there is a link to configuration guidelines.

If you still need assistance, don\’t hesitate to contact AJA technical support directly.

October 4, 2010 at 5:58 pm in reply to: AJA Kona LSe & CS5

    Chris,

Of course there are many variables involved here, but the directly supported file types should play back in real-time with no problem in SD, almost regardless of the disk system you’re using. Try contacting our support department and they can run you through some troubleshooting to try to get to the bottom of the issue.

October 2, 2010 at 9:50 pm in reply to: KI-PRO stops recording

    Shane, Jeremy and Kevin,
There are three conditions, by design, where the Ki Pro will stop a recording:
    1) Ki Pro detects a loss of video or does not detect video because no signal is connected or is an invalid type. This feature prevents Ki Pro from recording glitched or compromised video as a QuickTime and is meant to alert the user to problematic signal. A WARNING prompt would appear on the front panel in such situations.
    2) The Ki Pro Arm Recording parameter is set to arm via TC/REC Button and the timecode is starting and stopping either as intended from the source or unintentionally because the timecode has a disruption and is \”flickering\”. No prompt appears in such a situation as there isn\’t a way to determine intended or unintended TC value changes.
    3) The Storage Module reaches the 10% remaining capacity and prompts \”WARNING MEDIA Full\”. This protects against disk errors due to seeks being compromised on filled disks. Again a prompt appears.

There are other relatively rare conditions where Ki Pro could stop recording, such as a disk i/o error (not dropped frames, but directory, IOPS level errors, etc.). Disk level errors might be beyond the scope of Ki Pro to diagnose. The recommendation would be to backup the data and reformat the media via the MEDIA menu parameter on the Ki Pro.

The SSD modules are of course unaffected by vibration, but the spinning units (250GB and 500GB) can be affected by extreme vibrations or high decibel situations where a spinning media would typically be affected by such phenomenon.

Finally, there is the possibility that the source video is overly compressed and degraded before reaching the Ki Pro for encoding. Yes, a satellite feed could be degraded sufficiently to be overly complex to encode. If the video being fed to Ki Pro is a bit compromised, you might consider updating to the latest 2.0 firmware released this week on at least one of your units as an effort was made to make Ki Pro more forgiving of compromised source signals; to be clear, no changes were made to the ProRes encoding, simply to what was considered valid incoming video.

If none of these suggestions seem to answer the question, please don\’t hesitate to contact AJA technical support on Monday.

    Hope this is helpful.
