October 19, 2010 at 9:31 pmam looking at the possibility of using the new AJA KiPro MINI with the HPX 170 but it requires 12v not 7.2v that the 170 uses. Is there an adapter that would allow me to mount a brick battery or a DIONIC 90 battery to the 170 and have an auxillary XLR 4pin power out to power the KiPro MINI as well? I want this as compact as possible to use the 170 hand held too.

There are a wide variety of possible mounting options. Since you want to power both the camera and the Ki Pro, you will likely want to look at the adapter from Anton Bauer, the QR-DVX:
https://www.antonbauer.com/Products/QRDVXNote that this adapter does not have a mounting plate and it’s a “pouch” adapter, but you can often take the back plate off of the Anton Bauer plate portion without issue via the 4 screws on the plate; once the back is removed, screw into whatever adapter plate you elect to mount to.
To get from an Anton Bauer battery plate to the Ki Pro Mini 4-pin XLR, you would simply need a P-Tap to 4-pin XLR cable. We recommend cables that use a straight, not angled XLR connector and that are not overly long just to make cable management easier. A good example would be the PC-5 listed on the Hawk Woods website:
https://www.hawkwoods.com/products/cables_and_plugs/power_con_cables_and_plugs/power_con_cables_and_plugs.php?mainMenuItemToSlide=11If you are looking for an ergonomic shoulder mount solution, there are many on the market, but you might look at something like the Switronix HDV-Pro/AS Shoulder Mount, where you could likely swap out the standard battery plate for the Anton Bauer plate specific to your HPX170 as listed above:
https://www.switronix.com/products/batteries?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=77&category_id=41This particular shoulder mount also features a wireless mic mount which the Ki Pro Mini with Mini Mount Plate could be attached to for easy slide on/off use.
The heart of mounting the Ki Pro Mini to anything – or mounting anything to it – is the Mini Mount Plate. The plate features a wide variety of tap holes and slots to make mounting to pretty much anything easy. You can see the mounting plate used in a variety of ways in the Ki Pro video at the following location on the AJA website:
https://www.aja.com/products/kipro/ki-pro-mini/ki-pro-mini-description.phpIf you wanted to explore other options for mounting accessories to your camera, you could look at companies like Zacuto – https://www.zacuto.com – which makes a wide range of options or simpler choices like the BEC Group mounting plate, BEC-DVCAMB-HD:
https://www.thebecgroup.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=58&language=Finally, if you don’t want to rear mount the Ki Pro Mini, you could also elect to mount it toward the front of the unit with a small hot-shoe arm that uses a 1/4-20 threaded screw, like this unit:
https://www.ikancorp.com/productInfo.php?id=58By no means is this list complete; there are many more options from other companies not listed here.
Hopefully this information is a good starting point for you.
