Since you haven’t stated what the STATUS menu is reporting (1080PsF 23.98 or 1080p 23.98) it’s hard to determine what you are seeing. You should consider contacting AJA Technical Support for additional assistance.

If the ARRI Alexa is producing 1080PsF 23.98, then you can use the Ki Pro’s active outputs to feed monitors, etc. without issue.
If the ARRI Alexa is producing 1080p 23.98 (true progressive as opposed to PsF), then you may need to contact AJA Technical Support for a beta firmware version that provides EE/input passthrough. Currently, Ki Pro supports 1080p 23.98 for recording and playback, but there is minor EE/input passthrough issue with the public release firmware.
You can determine what format and frame rate the Ki Pro is receiving if you select the STATUS button on the Ki Pro.

The Ki Pro supports a variety of UTF-8 characters. However, the “_” character is already in use for the custom clip naming convention’s Custom Clip Take parameter. To avoid file naming “collisions,” it is not included in the set of alphanumeric characters presented to the user. Upper and lower case letters, numbers and some symbols, such as periods, spaces and dashes, are included. Using the example provided, “DecN_060410_01” is not supported via the provided characters, but “DecN-060410-01” or “DecN.060410.01” or “DecN 060410 01” would be supported.
Additionally, files transferred to the Ki Pro Storage Module can support names with underscore characters; keep in mind that with this example, Mac OS X warns you if a file name is already in use if you try to copy a clip with the same name to the media.
If you need additional clarification on file naming or any other Ki Pro operational matter, don’t hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email.

Please contact AJA Technical Support if you have questions about the operation of your Ki Pro Mini. If you are using qualified Compact Flash media in the device, you should not have to repair the directory of the media simply due to a loss of power when you are not recording to the media.
AJA Technical support can be reached via phone or email. Contact information and support request submissions can be found at the following webpage:

The ability to override an existing clip that had previously been recorded was requested by a number of end users of the Ki Pro products. This is why the feature was added. Again, only user selections can enable this function; obviously it is not the default behavior of the device.
I’m sorry if you weren’t clear about the feature and the operation but, as noted in this thread, there is a large red “Caution” icon and specific information regarding the operation of this feature in both the Ki Pro and Ki Pro Mini operation manuals.
If you are unsure how a product feature works, it’s always wise to consult the operation manual for the product prior to use. If you have additional questions or concerns about a particular operation, AJA Technical Support can be contacted free of charge via phone or email to answer such questions.

April 28, 2011 at 9:33 pm in reply to: MacPro with ATI Readeon HD 5770 and Kona 3GYour computer displays, which are connected to your ATI graphics card, are for use with your Mac OS X desktop output; they are not dedicated video monitors, though they can display video from the graphics card on their screens. The KONA 3G card can be connected to an analog component, SDI or HDMI monitor; the KONA 3G is not designed to be connected to the Apple Cinema Displays which you have connected to your graphics card. There are many good choices available for video monitoring. Some monitors will feature analog component connectivity, some will feature SDI connectivity and some will feature HDMI connectivity; some even feature all of these choices or a combination of these connectivity choices.
You can contact your local AJA authorized reseller for video monitor suggestions; AJA resellers often carry not only AJA equipment, but a wide array of video equipment, including video monitors. If you have questions about connecting your video monitor to the KONA 3G, you can contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email for additional assistance.

This sounds like you are performing a recording, but then losing power during the recording. If this happens, the Ki Pro Storage Module can be removed and mounted on a Mac OS X computer and the directory for the media will be repaired. If this step is not taken, you may notice a “Backup and Reformat” prompt when the media is re-inserted or after powering back up. In such cases, if the directory has been compromised, you will not be able to record. Please note that we recommend that you not only mount your media on Mac OS X to repair the Storage Module directory in such cases, but we also recommend that you back up the media at this point to your editorial storage system. We further recommend that once you’ve backed up your recordings, you should then format the media in the Ki Pro to further reduce any chance of directory error.
If you have additional questions or need further assistance, don’t hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email.
