May 13, 2011 at 8:41 pm in reply to: Ki Pro Mini HDMI Out Issue

Your monitor may not support the type of HDMI signal that is being produced by the Ki Pro since the monitor is expecting DVI, not HDMI (and thus the reason you need to use the HDMI to DVI cable as you noted to connect to the monitor). This would really depend on the monitor, as AJA has used HDMI to DVI cables to connect to some monitors successfully.

Connecting to the monitor via the SDI output would seem to be the easiest signal routing solution; you note that you don’t have such a cable, but it would probably be best to seek one out.

It should not matter if your camera does not have SDI output; the Ki Pro Mini can accept an HDMI input and output SDI and HDMI signals at the same time.

  • The 2K Crop feature is, as the name implies, a way to view 2K material on an HD monitor, but with some cropping of the image.

Typically, setting the headphone adjustment knob to the “noon” position will produce audio volume loud enough for use with headphones when performing general audio monitoring.

The Ki Pro records 24-bit 48kHz quality audio. This is typically equal to – or better – than the audio that may be recorded by the camcorder.

If you have additional questions, don’t hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email for assistance.

  • To view 2K material on a 1920×1080 monitor, you will need to use the 2K Crop feature in the AJA Control Panel application. You will also need to select 2K as a geometry in the Video Setup or Setup tab of the AJA Control Panel application.

You can find detailed information regarding 2K workflows in the AJA KONA operation manual. You can also feel free to contact AJA Technical Support for additional assistance via phone or email.

Keep in mind that the Ki Pro features an audio switch for Line/Mic/Phantom audio levels. You might check this switch to be sure that it is in the appropriate setting for the type of audio that you are sending to the Ki Pro. If the audio out of the headphone seems “weak,” it may be because the audio switch is not set to the correct setting. Also, keep in mind that the Ki Pro can only adjust audio levels for the analog inputs, not the digital audio inputs such as HDMI or SDI. This may be a consideration if you decide to use the analog audio as an audio input to the Ki Pro. However, you may also find that sending a single cable to the Ki Pro for both audio and video signals is convenient by comparison.

If you have questions about your audio configuration, don’t hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support for additional assistance via phone or email.

You may find the following steps helpful when updating the Ki Pro:

    1) Launch “System Preferences” on your Mac Pro. Open “Network.”
    2) For “Configure iPv4” set to “Manually.”
    3) For “IP Address,” enter “192.168.0.1”
    4) For “Subnet Mask,” enter “255.255.255.0”
    5) Choose “Apply” in the lower right hand corner of the “Network” window.
    6) On the Ki Pro, enter the CONFIG menu parameters and navigate to “IP CONFIG”
    7) For “IP CONFIG,” select “STATIC ADDR”
    8) Next, go to “IP ADDRESS” and for “IP ADDRESS,” set the IP address to “192.168.0.2” (if it is not already defaulting to this address)
    9) Next, go to “SUBNET MASK” and set this to “255.255.255.0” (if it is not already defaulting to this subnet mask)
    10) Connect an ethernet cable between the Mac Pro ethernet port you configured for the manual IP address and the Ki Pro.
    11) Launch a web browser, such as Safari or Firefox.
    12) In the address bar, type in “192.168.0.2”
    13) If you have configured things correctly, you will see the AJA Ki Pro web UI appear.
    14) On the left hand side of the UI, you should see the “Update Firmware” selection.
    15) Select “Update Firmware” and use the “Choose File” button in the UI to navigate to the location where the Ki Pro .bin file is located. Select “Upload” after you have selected the .bin file.
    16) Follow the remaining instructions as they are presented.
    17) The Ki Pro should re-boot at the end of the process with the new firmware.

If you have any difficulty with this process or need additional assistance, don’t hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email.
