The behavior of Custom Clip Take is the same with the initial firmware as it is with the new version 2.5 firmware. The Ki Pro Mini operation manual contains a ‘CAUTION’ icon and clear details about this feature on page 33 of the manual:

Caution!
If a custom name is not changed and the “Custom Clip Take” parameter is not enabled, an existing clip can be overwritten on the disk. Example: the first recording made is called “Flying” and the “Custom Clip Take” parameter is not enabled and the user does not enter a new value for the custom clip name and leaves “Flying” entered, the first recording will be overwritten by the second recording. AJA does not typically recommend disabling the use of the custom clip take, but in some situations, overwriting an existing file may be desirable.

The default value for the Custom Clip Take is for it to be enabled, ‘ON’, and recordings will have names like “Flying_1”, “Flying_2”, and so on. In order for the user to erase clips, the user has to change/disable the take numbering in the Custom Clip Take MEDIA menu parameter.

The Ki Pro and Ki Pro Mini auto-detect incoming video format and frame rate. Having stated that, it should be noted that 1080PsF 25 and 1080i 25 appear the same “over-the-wire” with HD-SDI signals. The solution, if the source video is 1080PsF 25, and a 1080 progressive recording with no field dominance is desired, is to enter the CONFIG menu parameter 1.1 Record Type and select “PsF” from the list. This will produce a recording without field dominance (otherwise, if “Normal” was selected for Record Type, a file with Upper Field dominance, would be produced).

The original Ki Pro product continues to receive feature development efforts. The Ki Pro Mini was not designed to replace the original Ki Pro, but to provide a more compact recorder as an option.

Regarding the issue reported with respect to timecode value displayed, I would suggest contacting AJA Technical Support again as that issue was not replicated. They may need more information about your particular configuration and workflow.

Ki Pro Mini power consumption is listed in the Ki Pro Mini manual, version 2.5. For detailed information, refer to the Appendix A section, “Power.”

Please note that the values listed in the documentation are conservative estimates; lower power consumption during idle, as noted, is likely.

If you recorded using the ARRI Alexa to one of the Apple ProRes codecs, you should be able to use an AJA-provided Easy Setup within Final Cut Pro to work with and you KONA 3G.

Only the KONA LHi provides HDMI input; the KONA 3 would require the use of an HDMI to SDI converter such as the AJA HA5.

The content being sent from the HDMI output of the Apple iPad 2 may be encrypted. It is often the case that consumer devices, such as BluRay players, provide encrypted HDMI output.
