  • h265 is a rather unfriendly format to edit in Vegas Pro and it’s not really supported in earlier versions.

There are a bunch of workarounds though:
    1) Convert your files to h264. Free tool that I like to use is Handbrake. Free and has plenty of tutorials online.
    2) Upgrade Vegas Pro to the most recent version which would work better with h265. Can download the trial version first to see if it works.
    3) Try another video editing software like DaVinci Resolve. It has a free version and is all-round very good for color work.

The main confusion nowadays is around the fact that it’s no longer “Sony Vegas”, but “Vegas Pro”. MAGIX is the company that owns & develops Vegas Pro since 2016 (before it was Sony developing it).

However, MAGIX does also have their own self-titled video editing software: MAGIX Movie Studio and MAGIX Video Pro. Those are completely separate applications from Vegas Pro – their own thing.

  • Hahaha, sometimes the problem really is right in front of you, glad it’s resolved!
Something to take away then – when testing such issues, need to minimize the amount of variables in the test cases.

Very strange. Really the only thing I can think of is to fully reinstall the net frameworks in that case and reinstalling vegas pro. The other potential solution I found was reinstalling windows, which seems a bit much just to launch vegas pro.

  • So with this plugin the tutorial you linked isn’t what you’re looking for. That’s for presets, this is a plugin. Bit of a misleading title there.
With this one you simply launch the .exe file and it should automatically install to the correct location. If you changed the default destination folder – that might’ve caused the issue.

I suggest you simply launch the installer again without changing any of the the destination folders.

Alternatively the slightly more complex approach would be to open vegas, go to Options -> Preferences -> VST Efects and for the Alternate VST search folder – browse to where you installed this plugin, click ok and then click the refresh button below the list.

I looked into this issue and the most common solution was what you already mentioned:
Installing/reinstalling .net frameworks, reinstalling vegas pro.

The only alternative solution I found was to run command prompt as an administrator and enter the command:

    sfc /scannow

This command scans system files and repairs corrupted ones.
Note that it only works if you launch command prompt in administrator mode!

If no problems are found it will output something like this:

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Note that the scan might take a while, not a super fast process.
If it output anything else after finishing you should restart your computer and then you can try opening vegas again.

  • Hey, I’d like to preface by saying that I’m no audio engineer so to judge whether this plugin is “good” or not is slightly beyond me, but I did find a potential solution for you, sounded alright to me.

So one free option that could do the job is Graillon.
Use the installation .exe and for Vegas Pro 17 you’ll need the VST2.4 version. I believe starting with Vegas Pro 20 you can use VST3 version. Install, restart Vegas Pro and it should be added automatically.

Then you need to add this effect to the whole track, not the audio clip. After that I’ve attached screenshots of where to find the fx automation button and then look for pitch shift. Tick that, click OK and you should get an envelope for pitch shift on your track. Then add your points and you’ll get a gradual pitch shift.
My screenshots are from VP20, but functionally the process is the same for VP17 – tested, worked.

The free version does still offer some customization, you can tweak some settings, but some panels are locked.

  • If you’re running Vegas Pro 17 or later you should be able to use the Slideshow feature.

Either right click in your timeline and click “Insert Slideshow…” or click on Insert -> Slideshow at the top of Vegas. It’ll open up a new window where you can click on the folder icon to add pictures, sort them how you want (either with buttons at the top or click and drag) and you can also rotate them, just select the image first.
Then if you go to settings you can set the duration of each picture or total length + select a transition effect.

Re-installing could be a potential fix here, but I don’t think it actually fixes such problems that often. I more often see “I already tried reinstalling – didn’t help” than it having helped.
However, if you decide to proceed and you’re worried about your presets/preferences – you can export preferences by going to Options -> Export Preferences, then Options -> Import Preferences when re-installed.
As for presets – those you can find in Documents -> OFX Presets folder. I don’t think these will get removed, but you can back up the whole folder to be safe. If you have 3rd party plugins – those might have to be reinstalled.

What I think is likely happening is you’re hitting the keybinds for those windows to disappear.
They’re Alt + 1, Alt + 2, Alt + 3 … and so on. You could remove those keybinds in Options -> Customize Keyboard

Yeah, same here, except in this case you actually have the option to get a perpetual license after cancelling.
