FYI – It’s called “Flash Video Encoder” – found in the same default start menu location as the rest of the Adobe programs.

is this the first frame of your video, possibly. Maybe it’s set to auto-rewind?
The best advice I can give you is not to create Flash video in AE. Better to create uncompressed and then use a program like Flash, Squeeze or Flix to convert/compress Flash video. You have a lot more control there.

A few people have been reporting little quirks like this.
While I can’t recreate it, these things should still be looked at. There should be no compatibility issues cross platform or version (upwards anyway).
Though admittedly I may have jumped the gun – did you try it with more than 1 project or only this one?

What I like about that tutorial (the one jonl521 pointed out) is that he’s using footage from a real explosion (At least I think it’s real) with particles. Definitely makes things look more real.
In general, using a mix of real and fake for organic effects that we see regularly (water, fire…etc.) can be very helpful in the process of creating believable effects. The fake ones can be used to help customize it to the environment – like having the sparks hit the floor.
Also would like to point out that you should use the force motion blur effect with shatter to simulate motion blur – otherwise it looks quite fake.

The effect CC Light Burst, is closer to shine, actually. Try it out.
But if you can spare the money, go with Shine.
It’s significantly faster and has more parameters, so you have a lot more control over the look and feel.

I saw just this, so I sent it up the Adobe bug pipeline. Hopefully it will get to the right people and be addressed in the near future. They really do pay attention to this stuff.
