I imported a project I was building in AE6.5 into my shiny new copy of CS3 and now the lights don’t work. The light was fine in AE 6.5 and casts the correct shadow, but the same exact comp in CS3 doesn’t display at all.
Settings are the same, the light is active, the layers that cast the shadow and the layer that receives it are all checked correctly, so any idea what I could be missing here?

I’m not an AE rockstar, but I know my way around well enough to get some pretty decent stuff done. This has me stumped.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or solutions,
    -Andy

Interesting… Spot light works, but paralell doesn’t. I guess I can work around this, but why doesn’t this work?

I’ve run into some rather strange problems when importing older AEPs into CS3, I am tempted to mark it up to a random incompatibility quirk but just in case I should ask if you have any 2D layers in the comp, what the settings are on the light, etc. =)

I saw just this, so I sent it up the Adobe bug pipeline. Hopefully it will get to the right people and be addressed in the near future. They really do pay attention to this stuff.

So you were able to recreate this? I thought it was just me.
I built a simple comp of text and a color layer to recreate it in a more controlled environment, and sure enough parallel light didn’t display but spot did.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out and report it…even if there isn’t an immediate fix.

A few people have been reporting little quirks like this.

While I can’t recreate it, these things should still be looked at. There should be no compatibility issues cross platform or version (upwards anyway).

Though admittedly I may have jumped the gun – did you try it with more than 1 project or only this one?

    mac or PC?

    Hey there-

Can you make this file available so that the people at Adobe can look at it? I wouldn’t mind seeing it myself.

    Best,

    Aharon
