  • Export .flv ?

Posted by Bernhard Rieder on July 22, 2007 at 1:46 am

    Hello friends !

I have a little problem while exporting .flv files.
After doing that, and using a .flv file in a streamplayer, the last frame is always a black solid image.

I made a little animation. And in this animation, my last frame is a still image from a bike.

I’ve used this file for exporting the .flv, and after playing the exported .flv player in my stramplayer, my last frame is a solid black image, instead of my bike.

I couldn’t find any special options in the export settings to solve that problem. What I am doing wrong ?

You can see my test animation here:

    thx for every littel help…

is this the first frame of your video, possibly. Maybe it’s set to auto-rewind?

The best advice I can give you is not to create Flash video in AE. Better to create uncompressed and then use a program like Flash, Squeeze or Flix to convert/compress Flash video. You have a lot more control there.

I agree with Aharon, and don’t forget – If you have the Flash video converter installed, you can export FLVs directly from Quicktime Pro using uncompressed MOVs as the source.

“my last frame is a solid black image, instead of my bike.”

I think that this is where your problem lies. I see your bike flash real briefly before the black pops up. My guess is that your player StreamPlayer is showing a black frame because your animation as stopped, instead of continuing to display the last frame.
If you’ve set up your animation with only one or two frames of the bike at the end, you might try extending this out to several seconds, a minute, whatever…
I also think that most of the flash banners and such that you see around the web are finalized in the Adobe Flash application with a certain amount of flash programming behind it before publishing it as a SWF. Since you are just exporting a SWF straight out of AE, there is no control to tell it how to behave, you are at the mercy of the SWF player you are using.

Look into Flix from On2 Technologies ( on2.com ). They have an QT exporter you can export FLV and SWF straight out of AE or QT. They also have standalone converters and a library of players as well. While not free, it’s a darn good buy for the price and quality.

Sorry I should have mentioned this comes with Flash, and isn’t available as a separate app.

FYI – It’s called “Flash Video Encoder” – found in the same default start menu location as the rest of the Adobe programs.

Shameless plug here – but I have a Creative Cow DVD coming out shortly that covers working with video for the web, and I cover crerating and working with flash video, in-depth. Keep you eyes and ears open (if you’re interested).

Er, yeah – I guess that’s what happens when I give advice away from my design machine. I’m always mangling the names of things / menu options etc.

Thanks for the correction, and looking forward to the new DVD!

Oh yeah. I make that sort of mistake all the time…
