Can I ask why you’re building an HD project at SD size? I know SD is easier to work with, but if your end goal is HD, you should be working at an HD size.

If you need to upres, maybe consider getting an up-rezzing plug-in for AE such as Digital Anarchy’s ReSizer or Red Giant Software’s Instant HD. These plug-ins are used for up-rezzing video so that you can work with SD video in an HD sized Comp with significantly less loss, however it’s not perfect.

Again, the best solution is to work at the right Resolution to begin with.

September 12, 2007 at 4:16 am in reply to: create pre set

Are you asking how to add particleIllusion presets into AE CS3’s presets?

It is not possible. Presets are for AE properties only. pIllusion is a stand alone program with no properties in AE.

Thank you all! These are precisely the reasons I made the DVD. It makes me really happy to know that it’s helping you in your work. I especially appreciate that you folks are willing to come in here and let people know about it (and to let me know that you’re happy with it).

This was a pretty big undertaking, and I have to admit that, during the long creation process, I had a few moments of panic where I thought people would see the product and go: “why would I need to buy that?”

But thankfully, the Cow Team, including Ron, Kathlyn, and Tim, not to mention my wife were very encouraging and supportive.

    Thanks again, everyone.

In case you aren’t clear on the whole Straight vs. Premultiplied thing – watch these 2 videos:

September 11, 2007 at 11:16 am in reply to: Accept Shadows

selecting any 3D layer and hitting AA (A twice is quick succession) reveals all 3D related properties (not including transformations).

So if you hit AA on the layer that want to accept shadows, that property will become visible.

Side note – AA brings up different properties on different kinds of layers, such as lights and cameras.

September 9, 2007 at 6:03 am in reply to: Crazy Renderings!!

Is this happening with older projects that used to render faster? Is it rendering slower in CS3 vs. AE 7.

If it’s rendering slower since you started using CS3, keep in mind that CS3 has a larger overhead than CS2 – meaning that CS3 requires more system resources than CS2 (At least I think so). That could explain the slow down.

Another possibility is that CS3’s settings may not be optimized for your system. Check the Adobe website for info on Virtual Memory and RAM settings for AE.

Finally, it’s also possible it may have nothing to do with AE. Have you installed any other software that is running in the BG stealing resources? That could slow things down too.

September 9, 2007 at 2:43 am in reply to: help! black frames in my quicktime renders…

genuinely don;t know, not being on a mac. However, it could be a memory issue. You may want to have AE flush the RAM during render every 15 frames. To learn more about that – watch this video:

    https://library.creativecow.net/articles/rabinowitz_aharon/workflow_2.php

Again, not sure if this is the problem, but it might be.
