I have been looking for ages and I cannot find the button that lets me allow shadows. I know it is “Accept Shadows” But I cannot find it anywhere. Am I being stupid? Or is it hidden somewhere. I have After Effects 5.5.

On a 3D layer, twirld down (the little triangle to the let of the name) until you get Material Options>Accept Shadows>On.

I don’t know about 5.5, but in 7, it’s just under the material options. Just twirl down the little arrow and you’ll find it.

selecting any 3D layer and hitting AA (A twice is quick succession) reveals all 3D related properties (not including transformations).

So if you hit AA on the layer that want to accept shadows, that property will become visible.

Side note – AA brings up different properties on different kinds of layers, such as lights and cameras.
