This is really driving me crazy. I’ve been using AFX for quite a while now. Suddenly my Render Times have Tripled it seems. I’m not sure what I might have pressed.

I got a fast machine. AMD 4200, 1 Gig of Ram,

Mind you this is AFX CS3, though I still think I might have a pressed a wrong button somewhere!!

Could you guys give a check list for speedy renders.
I’m just trying to get a “best quality” uncompressed Render (since for some reason WMV doesn’t work.)

It is kind of driving me crazy cuz I just finished two good projects but didn’t render them yet!!

Is there anyway to reset default settings for the whole program?

Is this happening with older projects that used to render faster? Is it rendering slower in CS3 vs. AE 7.

If it’s rendering slower since you started using CS3, keep in mind that CS3 has a larger overhead than CS2 – meaning that CS3 requires more system resources than CS2 (At least I think so). That could explain the slow down.

Another possibility is that CS3’s settings may not be optimized for your system. Check the Adobe website for info on Virtual Memory and RAM settings for AE.

Finally, it’s also possible it may have nothing to do with AE. Have you installed any other software that is running in the BG stealing resources? That could slow things down too.

Thanks it’s an honor to have your assistance Aharon.
Actually these are new projects I’ve made with with CS3. I am curious to see how they’d run on AE7 which I have on another XP installation on this computer. The downside is that I used Puppet Affect. So I’d be losing that data.
Still I test it to see if it still runs considerable faster.
I played around a lot and by enabling Open GL renderings, it went a fair bit faster. It seems like my CPU is not operating up to par. Next thing I will do is grab another Gigabyte of RAM and see if that helps things!!

I really appreciate your help. It’s an awesome forum!!!

You definitely need another gig stick of RAM regardless. By default, PCs utilize 2gb RAM to an app and Macs 3gb of RAM to an app. This is before it goes into your page file/virtual memory (which you should also check the size of). Is your processor the AMD X2 4200 (dual core)? Even if it’s not, that is probably not the bottleneck unless you are running more than several background apps. Also, as you know, uncompressed heavy effects-loaded renders are going to take some time.
