DO NOT EXPORT FLV’S OR ANY COMPRESSED VIDEO OUT OF AE!!!!
AE is not designed to compress video. It will not do as good a job as Flix or Squeeze.

If you haven’t looked at Digital Anarchy’s ToonIt! you should. It’s a toon making plugin for AE, and it does a much better job of ignoring the noise and slight color changes that mess up livetrace.

Effect > Simulation > CC Ball Action
You can also do something similar with the New Trapcode Form, but I am pretty sure that the effect you linked to was done with Ball action. Play with the twist and scatter properties.

AE doesn;t really have good water effects of the kind you’re describing. However, there is a plugin that does exactly that:

OK Steve – good point – maybe I should take the time to read…
As Darby pointed out The XY value curve is represented in the comp window as a motion path. While other properties have both a velocity and value graph, position’s value graph was only represented in the comp widow as a motion path.
That has changed in 7+.

Just to mention the obvious – the graph is now hidden until you click on the Show Animation Graph button.
It’s the button all the way to the right of the comp buttons. It looks like a graph with a curve.
From there, follow these help docs for more info on how to show different aspects of the graph:

I genuinely don’t know. But if you’re looking for a good solution with more player options, try On2 Flix Pro (https://www.on2.com/). Yeah you have to spend some money ($250) but their skins are slicker, and you can also buy 130+ extra player skins for under 30 bucks.
Using flash to create a player is pretty easy once you know how, but given your situation, it may not be the best option. I think Flix Pro might be your best choice.
