AE Composition to FLV-File (Squeeze or FlixPro8?)
Posted by Mika1976 on December 4, 2007 at 10:05 amHi,
how do i get the best quality result, if i want to render out my ae composition to a flv-file for the web?
1) using internal ae?
2) render out as avi and make the flv with…
2a) sorenson squeeze?
2b) on2Flix Pro?i downloaded the trial version of squeeze and my compressed file is getting scaled down (original 800×600, compressed 400×300)… is it another limitation of the trial version?
i would be very thankful for any advise,
cheers, horstFermin Romero replied 18 years, 5 months ago 4 Members · 6 Replies -

December 4, 2007 at 12:28 pmI use On2’s Flix8 Exporter, which will give you an option in AE under “export” to export to FLV or SWF. From there you can adjust the size (or use current comp size), bitrate, vbr/cbr, 1/2 pass, framerate, etc… I’ve been using it for years and it produces great results.

December 5, 2007 at 12:31 amDO NOT EXPORT FLV’S OR ANY COMPRESSED VIDEO OUT OF AE!!!!
AE is not designed to compress video. It will not do as good a job as Flix or Squeeze.
Watch this video for more info on what I’m talking about:
Internet Killed The Video Star – Chapter 1
I personally use Squeeze for FLV compression and it’s pretty good.

December 5, 2007 at 9:42 pmI have a series of markers that I motion tracked in order to use in my flash project. So how can I export my video from AE and maintain that data so it appears as cue points in flash?
Thanks

December 5, 2007 at 11:15 pmI didn’t understand that. If you motion tracked markers, how does that translate out as cue points. Either you;re using the wrong terminology or I’m completely having a brain freeze.
What does motion tracking have to do with cue points?
You can add cue points in flash and squeeze. You may have to write down you’re cue points and do it manually, or this might work…
– Export a temporary flash file from AE (you can probably turn off all of your layers for this – read below)
– Also render uncompressed from AE
– Compress the uncompressed video in squeeze
– Bring the squeezed FLV into Flash, and give it a flash player.
– Bring the temporary AE flash file into flash
-Copy the cue points from your AE flash file to the FLV player’s cue points list.Anyway, since all you need in the temp flash file is the cue points and not the visuals, you don’t need to burden ae with having to actually render your layers and effects. All you need is the markers.
I have never tried this so I have no idea if copying the list is even possible, but if it is, maybe it will work.

December 6, 2007 at 1:51 pmI am trying to replicate the following:
https://blogs.adobe.com/keyframes/2007/10/creating_interactive_video_wit.html
So I think the cue points are heavily related to markers. I am still kinda new though – so I don’t know if I am using the wrong terminology. Since I am motion tracking there are several hundred markers so I think writing them down is out of the question. (this project is just not that important)
Someone told me that the marker data sticks to mov files as well but I am skeptical. Mostly because I gave it a try. But I could be doing something wrong.
I am also having issues even exporting as an FLV using the render queue so I must have done something wrong there too.
I bet there is a straight flash solution to this problem. It just sucks because so far all I have found is a $4000 program. https://www.videoclix.com/
Basically – I am looking to eventually make my way to having hotspot Flash Video. Complete with rollovers and clicks which will take the user to external links. I found this adobe blog and saw it as a jumping off point for my final goal…
Seems that there is a TON of action scripting involved in what I want to do and I have been actively looking for a solution. When I read about the queue points thing I figured that I could adapt this technique to allow me to do what I wanted to do. The video clix software is extremely powerful and offers its OWN motion tracking engine which will create the hotspots and do what I want it to do… HOWEVER my client is looking to spend below $4000 which makes it difficult for me to justify the cost.
I am confident that I can pull other business using the technique but it would certainly make for a great christmas for me if I saved 4 grand because I figured out how to do it myself.
Sorry for the long post but I have been at this for a few days and I just can’t seem to find any reliable documentation on how this can be accomplished. I have even looked at some legacy programs such as Adobe Director to solve this problem but that serves its own problem as there is rumor that someday a new version will be released.
Sigh – there are a ton of people out there doing this – I just don’t know how.
Thanks for your help.
