Looking for a transitional effect, but need some inspiration and know how!
Hey guys, I hope this post doesn’t come off as sounding to needy, but I consider myself an intermediate AE user and am just getting familiar with the wonderful world of particle playground and expressions… I really wanted to pick your brains for this, if it wasn’t too much trouble.
The scenario: I’ll be doing an animation shortly in which I’ll need to have a character quickly change from one wardrobe/pose to another two or three times.
The transition: The transition needs to be fairly sudden…happen at the snap of a finger essentially. I’m looking for something like a “magical poof”, or a quick top to bottom wipe with some glitz and glam (again, want that “magical” aesthetic).
While I can see what I want, I’m not quite sure how I can create it in AE from scratch to the fullest extent. Do you guys know of any tutorials or examples that may fit the bill? I’m open to any inspiration or know how!

This might help to visually exemplify what I’m sorta thinking…
I’m referring to the bottom left explosion, it has that sparkling effect to it.It looks like something close to this could be achieved with particles in AE, right?

There’s actually a few presets that are included with Trapcode’s Particular that look almost exactly like that.
If you’re not familiar with Trapcode’s plug-ins, they’re all fantastic, but they come at a price.

I would have said that was wondertouch particleIllusion, but even if not, I know that particleIllusion comes with a bunch of very similar effect.

I am, of course, just kidding. ParticleIllusion is a cool 2D particle generator, I just happen to be more comfortable in my work with Particular.

Actually, I have both and use both. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages, and are essential tools in my kit of many wonders. But speciffically, I meant that that effect looked like particleIllusion, or at the very least could be done in it.
Oh, and you’re a fool, Darby. A fool! particleIllusion rocks! Oh yeah!

Thanks for the fantastic suggestions guys! I’m looking into some of these suggestions for future use…
As for right now, I found this tutorial for building your own 3D particle generator here on the Cow already. Due to time constraints, and the hassle of getting my company to sign off on software purchases, I’m modifying these existing assets (code and image) to look a bit more realistic and “chincy”. I think I can achieve what I’m looking for, even with my limited knowledge of these AE features.
