November 4, 2005 at 6:39 pm in reply to: Camera Flash transition or Over Exposed Transition? Here’s my recipe:
1 – Create an adjustment layer above everything else.
2- Add the following effects in this stack order:
Fast Blur
LevelsAt your in and out points (each should be about 4 frames from your exact tranisition point – i.e. where the footage cuts to the next scene) for the transition, Set key frames for both 0 blur, and and the histogram – so basically, the in and out points are set to normal.
Make sure to have repeate Edge Pixels activated in the Blur effect.
Right on the frame where it cuts onto the new footage, set the blurriness up really high, so that things are really blended together. Also, in the Levels effect, grab hold of the input white arrow and slide it almost all the way to the left towards the black arrow, so that everything turns almost completely white. Alternately, you can just set the Input white value to a really low number – it’s the same thing, but it’s easier to work with visually.
A few other things to help:
I like to play with this a bit – I often have it go out of focus (blurry), just a little, and also get a little brighter, then bring it back to almost normal, and then do the transition – all of this over maybe 3 or 4 frames as well. This creates a nice effect, and can also be done in revers on the way out.
If my footage is just too dark, and the levels effect isn’t making enough of it bright, I also add a white solid (below the adjustment layer, but above the footage) to fade up from 0% to 25% and then down again, matching the adjustment layer’s keyframes.
I’ve used this trick for braodcast a otn of time, and it works much faster then any plugin.
Also experiment by adding in the glow effect in the mix, if you want.

November 2, 2005 at 3:55 am in reply to: EXPERTS.. plz have the patience to watch THIS …please..Overall it has a very nice professional look, especially the mix of colors and blending modes – however there are a bunch of things that, were I your art director, I’d want changed or fixed before handing it off.
– There doesn’t seem to be any motion blur on some of the faster motion – especially when things fly by the camera while very close to it. I can see letters and things a lot more clear then I should be able to – it’s a little disturbing.
– Some of the speed changes seem a bit abrupt for the overall feel of the piece, which is more staely or elegant.
– The flash of light is too abrubt on the fade out. I’d give it a few more frames to go from 100% to 0%.
– The way all of the letters fly down at the end, again, bothers me because of the lack of motion blur.
– The way the small leters fly on is not nearly as pro looking as the rest of the piece – I’d go with something simple and elegent, as opposed to the individual letters flying on.
Just my 2 cents…

October 31, 2005 at 8:28 pm in reply to: Particle Illusion 3 and Adobe After Effects Luminescent Premul?remember, you have to have an actual BG layer for this to work, not just a blank white BG color.
That said, Luminecent premultiply is an additive effect (like screen or add), it will only serve to make it brighter.
Try it this way- do the effect in pIllusion over a white BG – whatever it looks like there, that’s what it will look like in AE using a white BG layer and Luminescent premultiply.
You might want to try turning on the emitter property called preserve color, which may keep the smoke from being additive. It would really help if you gave a full description of what you were tring to achieve – please explain what you are compositing together, and what effect you are using in pIllusion.
Thanks.

Wow, that is a bit of a load on the system, but it looks pretty cool. Nice work.

Non educational versions of AE come with the Cycore effects (sperate installer on the disk) – an effect called CC sphere, which makes 3D sphere’s *might* work.

So is it possible to create those 3d light spheres in AE? Would they have to be imported? We’ll see.
I’m not sure what you are talking about. I can’t DL the video any more and I forgot what it looks like.
Can you post the vid again, or post a snapshot?
Thanks.

October 28, 2005 at 1:41 pm in reply to: 3-d Fly thru question-why does camera “flip around?”A camera, unless it has it’s point of interest turned off (or rather it’s Auto-Orientation turned off) will rotate around the point of interest (POI). Either turn it off, or animate your POI to keep moving forward with your camera.
Layer > Transform > Auto-Orient > Off

I think it was done almost entirely in “2.5D” (like AE 3D which only uses flat layers). The camera starts to rotate, but almost eimmediately cuts. None of the rotation is serious, so you can get away with it.
I think it uses a bunch of flat layers – many of them with fractal and Boxy fractal effects (Noise>Fractal Noise), some grids (Render > Grid), and transfer modes like Screen or Add.
They are clearly 3D flat layers (turned slightly to give it more depth) with things just moving at different speeds and directions.
Don’t be fooled by that green trail. It’s not some cool effect. All it is is a green rectangle that goes being fully opaque to fully transparent. All you need to do is make a the same rectangle and attach it to the back of your object. You can do that in illustrator or with a solid in AE using a feathered mask.
For extra kick, just give it a transfer mode like Add and maybe duplicate it (So one on top of the other) and give the top layer some blur and lower the opacity a lot. You’re going to have to experiment for this.
Does that help?
