I actually, I read that they dressed trained monkeys up in a highly reflective circle suit, and then had them roll around in formation with stadium lights pointed at them to create the glow.
If someone went to the trouble of writing it (namely me), it must be the truth!

Probably your best bet would be to render to PNG if you want to keep the alpha channel for compositing purposes.
I don’t really use Flash too much… Anyone else have thoughts on this?
