On one of my machines I can’t even get into my WMV settings. If I try to use WMV or DVD, I get an unkown IO mismatch error .
Is anyone else getting this or a similar problem?

Actually, the quality is due to Sorenson Squeeze which I use to compress the final video cleanly. If you need to put video on the web and don’t want to lose quality, this program is invaluable.

There’s no plugin that really achieves this effect, though you can get some decent stuff out of AE using the posterize effect, and a few others. But it varies from shot to shot.
However, if you want a real flat cartoon look, and you have 50 minutes to kill, theres a 3-part video tutorial using AE and Illustarator CS2 in achieving this effect here at the cow:
Again, this method isn’t perfect, but I’ve gotten some cool results with it, and I get a lot of email from people who use it…

I agree. Thinking about how I do a lot of tutorials that show the AE interface, it’s hard for me to see the edges when the greys are so close – this would be helpful, alas.

yes, but you can always create a shadow later by taking the final key, making it a 3D layer, Tinting it black, rotating it 90 degrees and placing it on the “floor.”
Hate to sound like a broken record, but Andrew covers this sort of thing in his Crerative Cow DVD.
keeping That shadow may be limiting what you can actually do so forget about it and add it back in later.

If you want those points to stroke over time in AE, then yes, you have to import the strokes and do what you’re doing.
Unfortunately, a complex images has many paths, and this could really slow AE down.
Conmsider lowering the number of colors and detail in your Live trace.

What codec are you rendering out with? Some examples could be Cinepack, Microsoft DV, DivX.
If you are using a codec pIllusion doesn’t understand, then you’ll get a message like that.
FYI – It’s always best not to use compressed footage until your final product. Yes it takes up more spece, but it’s only temporary and quality is greatly improved in the final product…
