Nope, DVCPRO50 NTSC is ALWAYS 720×480.
I understand the doubts, because DVCPRO50 is in terms of quality closer to the online SD formats (720×486), but it’s actually a high quality variant of DV, so frame size is 720×480. Even for 16:9, is still that size with 16:9 aspect ratiio.Adolfo Rozenfeld

The Apple DVCPRO HD codec is not a standard Quicktime codec, but rather one of codecs that are installed when you have any of the Apple pro video applications (FCP/DVD SP/Motion). As you know, none of those exist for Windows. So you’ll probably have to transcode your video files to some other codec to use them on a PC. The standard Quicktime PhotoJPEG codec is a valid option if you want to keep reasonanly small data rates, similar to the DV100/DVCPRO HD ones.

You mean the bezier handles? If so, there’s no bezier handles, because they are not bezier splines but B-splines 🙂
The overall shape of the spline is not based on the direction of handles, but it’s an averaged curved path derived from the position of the nodes.
Other than that, the spline nodes are edited with very same Adjust Control Points tools. Just don’t expect the Bezier handles. If you really want the hanldes, you can convert the shape from B-spline to Bezier. Select the spline and go to the shape inspector. There, in shape type, select the kind you want (linear, bezier, b-spline).

Both the AJA and Decklink cards can play DV50 (and many other things) through their component or SDI outputs. Given that you can get one of those for well below $1000, it’s a steal!

Well, not necessarily. A capable secondary color correction tool allows you to define the color/luminance selection range with such precission, that many times there can be somewhat similar colors in the scene without problems. As an example, in some of my classes, I use a clip of a girl with a strong red t-shirt, that we change to something else. The scene has plenty of other red tones, including (no less) than the girl’s skin. Yes, sometimes you have to do (very simple) masks, but not always.

That as in example of what it’s known as “secondary color correction”. That term implies the selection of certain hue/saturation/luminance range and then applying corrections to that selected range. In the case you mention, if you for example select the color ranges of skin tones, you could then able to desature those (or desaturate everythng else, by quickly inverting the selection). Converting the selected color range to B&W is just an example of the power of this kind of tool. You could also change the color of someone’s shirt, or a car in the shot, etc.
Fortunately, the Pro versions of After Effects now come bundled with a very sophisticated color correction tool called Color Finesse (for free!). There’s very little in terms of color correction that CF can’t do.

In the Decklink’s preference pane, there’s a checkbox called “QT Playout”. You have to enable that one. It only works with specific codecs. I believe Blackmagic 8 bit (2vuy) was one of them.But there’s an easier, more practical way. The Blackmagic Deck Control application can send QT movies to the monitor, with wider codec compatibility, I would say Apple 8/10 bit, BMD 8bit/19 bit, DV25, DV50 and Photo JPEG should work with it. You’re basically send it the video to a “deck”. If there’s no deck, but a direct connection to the monitor, the app will only print a warning about the lack of transport connection. But will work perfectly.
