Hi, RedEye.
Thanks for reporting this.
I could reproduce the problem, and you’re right.
Let me say this:1) If nothing stranges comes up, a fix will surely be in the final release.
2) There’s really nothing you can do with the Path Text effect that can’t be done with text animator groups (please see below). For position/rotation/scale kerning jitter (as found in Path Text), you could create a text animator with those properties and use a wiggly selector so that the animator values are… wiggled. For the text on a path thing itself, just create a mask on the text layer, and then select that mask path in the text layer Path property. Of course, this doesn’t mean that Motion Blur with Path text shouldn’t be fixed.
3) Motion Blur in AE CS3 is drastically improved. It is now adaptive for 2D animation and text animators (in other words, it can dynamically pick the amount of motion blur samples needed for producing super smooth MB in each segment) and for all other types of animation (for example, any form of 3D animation and intralayer motion), you can freely raise the number of MB samples (it can go up to 255!). No more visible MB steps!
All these settings are in the Advanced pane of Comp settings.Adolfo Rozenfeld

The graph editor can display a value graph or a speed graph.
In the case of position property, you will only get bezier handles in the speed graph mode.
For the value graph, this can’t be represented with handles because there are so separate values/interpolation for XYZ. The bezier handles for position value are the ones you get in the Comp panel.
It’s not a “bug”, although an option to have Separate XYZ control for position is a common request. All other properties do give you bezier handles for value.Adolfo Rozenfeld

May 6, 2007 at 11:16 pm in reply to: is it possible to animate a photoshop layer (flat or in 3d space) on a masked path like u can do to text?Absolutely. The keyframes you generate for position property define a vector path called Motion Path. Each keyframe acts as node in this path. And you can edit each node so it is ‘hard” (linear) or gives you bezier handles (which you can of course also modify in a number of ways).
As an alternative, you can copy a Mask’s shape property (or AI or PS path), target position property and paste it as a motion path.Adolfo Rozenfeld

You have to re-import footage and replace.
Of course, this won’t be necessary for the final product. It’s just a workaround.Adolfo Rozenfeld

The third party content (Cycore FX, Keylight and Color Finesse) will certainly be included in the final release.

Here’s a (cumbersome, I know) workaround so you can bypass this bug while we wait for the final release.
It know it’s strange, but trust me on this one.
When you go to Import Footage dialog, you’ll see an “Enable” menu on top. Change it to “all files”. After you do that, a format menu will appear on the lower part. Select the file(s) you want to import and change the format from Quicktime to GIF. I know it sounds strange, but it should work.
Please let me know if this workaround stops the frozen footage in previews problem.Adolfo Rozenfeld

There a few other users experiencing this problem.
I believe the team has a fix. But it’s always helpful to know a bit more about the problem. It would be very helpful if you could let us know:
OS version
CPU(s)
RAM
Graphics card/ driver (OS X version for mac)
QT version
Very important: format and codec for the offending footage! You can post this here or send it to me, as you wish:
ar@adolforozenfeld.comThanks!
PS: This will go straight to the AE team.

May 1, 2007 at 10:26 pm in reply to: CS3 “blend using 1.0 gamma” doesn’t work for blurs and motion blur?Hello, Peter.
I understand the final product will come with an in-depth white paper that will go through the most frequent CM workflows. It will recommend the right settings for each case and leave all the guessing out. -
