[Amish Ed] “I’m trying to create an animated additive color wheel. I’m using lights and thought if I switched on the additive check box, that’s what I’d get. Well no go. Any ideas out there. Thanks…”
Cinema’s lights are additive by default–not sure what the problem is. The additive check box only applies to visible light (Light object>General>Visible Light).

Yep, what you need to do is change the viewport back to “Editor Camera” in the viewport’s Camera menu. If your viewport is set to use a camera object and you just change the projection, you’re actually changing the camera’s object’s projection. That’s why the change was reflected in both viewports.

I guess it depends on how you define “king”. Maya is certainly strong in character animation, and animation in general, but it’s modeling workflow isn’t the best. The same could be said for XSI.

Yep, you can do that numerically throught the coordinates manager, but unfortunately there’s no way to get a normalized axis directly on the object. If you want/need to do that you can create a null and drop your object inside it. Then move the null instead of the object.

As Mylenium says, both programs can do the job. However, I think you would find the learning curve less steep with Cinema. LW has a very antiquated interface–it’s actually split in two with separate modeling and animating programs.

I’d disagree that Modo/Silo/Hexagon are way ahead of Cinema in terms of poly modeling. The first two are probably a little ahead, but it’s largely a matter of workflow and taste. I bought Hexagon because it was so cheap but I rarely use it. I find modeling in Cinema much more fluid (and stable).

[tweekskratch] “id “render view” the same as a normal render, or is a render more like an export? and a render view is like a single frame render? sorry I’m a newbie.
    thanks!”

Render editor view is a still frame–used for test rendering. It’s very similar to the Picture Viewer render, but some parametric objects give you options for using lower quality for editor rendering. The hyperNURBS object is the big one to keep an eye on there.

Rendering to the Picture Viewer gives you the ability to export, whether to still frames or movie files.

[tweekskratch] “do they have a plugin for AE 7?”
Not yet, but the 6.5 plugin works.

Yes, you have to render–otherwise there’s nothing for AE to display, right?

  • I guess the Array Object would be a natural choice. 🙂

Copy the AE 6.5 plugin from your Maxon>Exchange Plugins folder to your AE plugins folder.
