I think you will have to convert your Xref to real objects in order to get 3D data out.

Using noise is a good way to do this, but animating the rotation parameter should work too. It does here. Can’t tell what he’s doing wrong without a scene file, though.

You can change most of Cinema’s startup settings by opening a blank scene, making the changes you want, and saving the scene as new.c4d to the directory listed at the bottom of the Preferences>Common window.

For older versions, save the file to the Maxon root directory (directory where the Cinema executable is located).

The modeling axis options aren’t available with primitive objects. Could that explain it?

Are you trying to get position data, an object buffer, or both?

If you just want an object buffer for the xref, put the compositing tag on the xref object.

You might be able to find a laser scanning service in your area.

Otherwise … I don’t know if this would work with such a shallow relief, but I knew a guy many years ago who created a depth map of sorts by putting an object in a pan of water that was titrated with some kind of substance (milk?) to the point where the deepest part of the object was barely discernable. Then he photographed it and equalized the photo to create a depth/displacement map. He showed the results and it actually worked fairly well. But the object he was “scanning” had much more thickness than a medal.

Cinema doesn’t support IES lights natively. They are supported in Vray for Cinema (plugin render engine).

But there’s no reason that your lights should stop emitting when you put them inside your model. If your headlight lens is transparent the light should shine through. Additionally you could turn off the light’s shadow casting or exclude the headlight geometry from the light altogether.

Are you perhaps talking about a lens flare effect?

You can break any object into individual faces by selection all of them, running Functions>Dissolve (uncheck preserve groups), and then by running Functions>Explode Segments. Of course that won’t give you *exactly* what you’re looking for.

I did this tutorial recently which might give you some clues:

I don’t understand the comment that MoGraph was “too clean”. You can stack as many effectors as you want (Random Effector comes to mind) to break up the regularity.

You could also place the camera in a null and use the align to spline tag on the null instead of the camera.
