Sounds like you might want something like this plugin: https://lesterbanks.com/2012/05/using-the-greebler-plugin-for-cinema-4d/

March 17, 2014 at 4:56 pm in reply to: create a polygon mesh from several thousand nulls?If the plugin doesn’t work (it does here) you can use mograph to achieve the same thing. First, create a single-point object. Easy way to do that is to make a cube editable, select all the points, and then run the weld command.
Then put the single-point object in a cloner and set the cloner to object mode.
Now create a fracture object and drop all of your nulls into it. Use the fracture object as the target for your cloner.
Make the cloner editable, select all the objects, and run the “connect and delete” command.
There’s your point cloud.
Unfortunately I don’t know of a great way to turn that into a coherent mesh. You could put it in a meatball object and get somewhat close, but it’s messy. If you have x-particles you could use the skinner object and get closer to the original shape.
Unfortunately Cinema’s .obj exporter doesn’t seem to work if you’re just exporting points, but if you get the Riptide Pro plugin it actually does work, at least in my simple test. https://skinprops.com/riptidepro.php
There’s also a free version of Riptide so you might give that a try first.

Not sure what you’re describing. Do you have a link to the Maya tutorial?

I don’t have R12 installed on my current machine but I think if you go to filter settings and right-click on the word grid, you have the option of making the parameter local — meaning it can be different for each viewport — or global. If you set it to global you should be okay.

March 16, 2014 at 4:36 pm in reply to: Texture not applying correctly to lathed cylinder shapeThere’s a number of things you could do:
* simply rotate the texture in Photoshop;
* set the texture tag to cylindrical mapping and use the texture tool to rotate/scale;
* duplicate the material, put the logo texture in a layer shader, add an effect>transform layer, and set the transform to rotate 90deg.

March 12, 2014 at 11:36 pm in reply to: modelling with Subdivision Surface (HYPER NURBS) suggestionUnfortunately it’s not really an easy task. SubD modeling takes time and patience … and practice. It’s a skill well worth developing, but for mechanical models like this … if you’re using R15 … you may want to try using the Bevel tool instead. The new Bevel is pretty powerful.

You can get more control of the blend method by creating more blend shapes. The example I posted just had two for demo purposes, but there’s no limit to how many you can add. They’ll proceed sequentially based upon the effector’s falloff strength.
