i think Particular is your best bet to recreate the effect.

You need to have your butterfly animation within a separate comp on your timeline. In particular you need to pick your particle type as a Sprite, then open the Texture and set the layer to the butterfly comp, time sampling to random loop.

As for the actual initial wind force – thats up to you to achieve, but i would certainly try experimenting with the air resistance and wind in the physics options.

another thing to think of:-

with the expresscard slot, you can also use an extra firewire card, which would allow you to have a firewire video connection to something like an AJA video box hooked up to the laptops firewire socket and have your hard drives on a different firewire bus through the expresscard.(or Esata bus)

you wont regret the extra screen real estate a 17″ machine will give you – especially when editing using tiny little viewer windows!

use the Colorama plugin, setting the output phase colour wheel so that it only contains colours you want to see.
then apply that to the bars.

i just bought a little docking station (ICYBOX) that lets me slot in any 2.5″or 3.5″ sata hdd, and it connects to my laptop by either eSata or USB2. Along with a lacie esta expressport connector.

Didn’t record any stats but watching it transfer over a 100 gb of data using esata was astonishingly fast!

i have seen this happen when i tried to import a Prores4444 graphic i had created using a non-standard frame size.

When exporting the graphic from After Effects, I had changed the default sizes to suit my project, but the Kona card (i think) doesn’t like it when you do that so it throws the error up when its asked to figure out what the file is.

what really got me thinking was seeing some test results online recently that compared the various drives in the macbookpro’s.
Reading that from pressing the power button to being fully operational, boot up took around 4seconds using an SSD. Thats when i thought, maybe now is the time to be able to start cutting on the laptop.

Having said that – i cannot remember where i saw the comparison, so it could be complete nonsense!

so – the dilemma is do i ask the boss for an ssd or stick to hdd?

i’ve not tried it as i’m not infront of AE right now, but i would try the Beam effect, and for each end point of the beam, i would use the expression pickwhip to connect to the position values of a track point.
