    change New Still Image Length

  • yep, the main concept mpeg encoder in vegas has been tops for a long time. Is a reason most vegas users AFAIK do any downconverts in vegas rather than in camera.

another point to consider and a valuable one at that: vegas supports scripting, so there is a load of tools users have made that can increase productivity massively. The most popular commercial tools are Excalibur and UltimateS3, but on some forums, peeps will make them to order, ie free. Have saved lotta time over the years with scripting.

compositing, both in terms of transfer modes and 3D space

also, audio is MUCH better in vegas

  • the only real way to answer that is to download a trial of vegas and try the workflow. some people love it, some don’t.

a reason to change would be the speed. all NLEs accomplish pretty much the same thing, but Vegas’s claim to fame is how quickly one can work.

the FX in vegas is NOT a reason to change from PPro etc. AE can do far more FX than any of the NLEs.

also, MM requires .net to be installed, IIRC. Can’t remember which, version 1, 2 or 3.

I simply turned it off in preferences.

no problem my side. vista64 business. Initial teething issue was DVDA requiring exclusion from DEP, which I solved through trial and error.

just did a vista reinstall becos of some grief with Office 2003 & 2007 (known problem with no known solution) and this time DVDA didn’t give any hiccups. Was a format and reinstall, and all running smoothly, incl the Office suites, from the outset.

FWIW, I have AE CS3, Bridge, Vegas & DVDA, Office 2003 & 2007, Nero, VLC, Celtx, eSword & Spybot installed, IIRC. No antivirus.

Am not using Media Manager, if that’s relevant.

    velocity envelopes:

right click a video clip and choose INSERT/REMOVE ENVELOPE and then choose VELOCITY

double click to create keyframes on the envelope/line, and drag them up or down.

    Etc.

to show name on timeline: VIEW/ACTIVE TAKE INFORMATION – is a toggle switch

I don’t use media manager but it prob has a way of showing what media is being used more graphically, but my simple method is as follows:

In your Project Media tab, instead of showing thumbnails, change the dropdown view button to DETAILED. Shows loadsa stuff, inclu which media being used and how many times.

    a couple of easy solutions:

use the PAN/CROP tool on the individual black matte clip, to resize it, rather than at track level

    or

use the GLOW at track level, in TRACK MOTION, to create a stroke edge for the text. Will default to normal glow but can be made hard-edged.
