Hey Craig
Do you have any info regarding this statememnt? Where can I find out how to do this, or if and when it is necessary? I use Episode for my encoding and despite it being a bit ‘thinner’ than Cleaner, I like how quick and stable it is compared to the latter. If you are familiar with Episode, do you know if it embeds profile? Not at work machine right now…
“I believe H.264 (MPEG4) can have the profile embedded in it so there’s no gamma shift between Mac and PC. I have no idea if this is viable with the new Flash Player though. ”
cheers

okay, its in Classic, I did not see that. Was looking at PSII. But the documentation doesnt really go into detail about using an alpha, just a passing mention of it. I assume if you place the effect onto a layer with mask/alpha it automaticaly uses that ase the producer and not a mask for the layer? So the particles effectively break out of the mask area?
I would go try it but i am rendering right now
thanks for the tip

Just looked and found no evidence in PS2 or in the PDF manual for CC effects that support alpha channel producers. Where did you see this? More sophisticated particle systes will do this like particular, but i have never seen a basic system support alpha channels.

yes, the key is to get a luma (or alpha) matte that goes from all black to all white. A simple fade or wipe will do this. But what if you want a more organic look like in the sample you provided? What if you dont have time or means too set up a camera to shot paint splatters? What tools are there in AE that can create some random noise that will fade from black to white…..
Thats right, our good old trusty friend fractal noise. I do this all the time to make what you would call gradient wipes. Yo yhave to play with the fractal noise plug in for a bit to get the desired density of noise and contrast and scale etc. But you set that to your luma track matte after animating the brightness and contrast values, in Erik Lauritsen’s case, very quickly over 3-4 frames, and voila..

Use the smoke rising preset and adjust the width value so it is a bit fatter, play with rotation until you get a good look, and change the fractal type to smeary. then use the fire preset in colorama. its closer…
or you can plunk down $5 for the istock footage and call it done

Hey Mylenium
yes I appreciate the vastly different disciplines of the 3D and CAD worlds. I just feel that in this day and age where files are shared between depts like never before that the 2 worlds may share some interoperability. The reason those CAD jockeys hate 3D artists is that they keep getting asked to build something. It happens enough that there is now a need for some synergy. No point both worlds being snobs and saying “we’re different” or we’re exclusive”. There is obvioulsy a need here.
3DSMax used to have an architectural version VIS I think. And I read that Maxon released an engineers version of C4D or something. Seems like there is some movement there. Maybe more than I am aware of.
Anyhow, I hope my .stl files work. Like Obe Wan, its the only hope I’ve got

thanks mike, i just recieved a .stl from my client…hopefully this will work.
Ugh….CAD what a nightmare, you’d think this day and age it would a bit easier
