March 16, 2007 at 3:24 pmThat would be CCParticle Systems or CCParticle Systems 2. They will use an alpha shape for particle source. Might not be what you’re looking for, exactly.
There is a large PDF on the installation disk all about the CC effects. You won’t get it without deliberately looking for it and copying it to your system. There is also some help on the cycore Web site.bogiesan
This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

March 16, 2007 at 4:09 pmJust looked and found no evidence in PS2 or in the PDF manual for CC effects that support alpha channel producers. Where did you see this? More sophisticated particle systes will do this like particular, but i have never seen a basic system support alpha channels.

March 16, 2007 at 4:29 pmPerhaps we are not visualizing the same meaning for the term, “alpha source.”
I’ve been using cycore particle effects since they were originally released as SEC and FEC. The ability to use an alpha shape as the particle creation source has always been a fabulous feature.Look up the PS Classic effect in the Cycore manual.

March 16, 2007 at 4:37 pmoh thanks for the info. The CC effect that does the trick is the CC PS classic. If you apply it on a layer with a mask, the producer would have the shape of the Mask automatictly. What I wanted was to get the particles come from the outline or path of the mask and not from the hole mask fill, but this still works for me, so thanks.
And yes, de PDF for the CC effects does not explain it very much. I -

March 16, 2007 at 6:30 pmokay, its in Classic, I did not see that. Was looking at PSII. But the documentation doesnt really go into detail about using an alpha, just a passing mention of it. I assume if you place the effect onto a layer with mask/alpha it automaticaly uses that ase the producer and not a mask for the layer? So the particles effectively break out of the mask area?
I would go try it but i am rendering right now
thanks for the tip
