I should add it locks up when I both try to play the movie in AE and when I try to export it.

  • I got it to work. Instead of going to Comp>Save Frame As>File. I do Comp>Same Frame As>Photoshop Layers. Then select the mask layer when importing. Works just fine.

I must be doing something wrong with my mask, because when I export it as a PSD like you mention, there is no alpha around the guy, just solid black. And in the timeline on the original AVI file I masked if I drop a video below it, it still shows solid black in the alpha area. Any idea why?

Ok, so I masked a frame using the pen tool how you said. Now how do I seperate the area I masked to a new layer? I want to take the guy I masked out to its own layer (1 frame, as a still image) so I can manipulate it separately. Any ideas?

  • I do have the face image as the gradient layer and I now set the Z position to intensity 1. However it still has no perception of any 3d contours in the slightest. Now with the Z position set at intensity 1 is just breaks apart the word movie. But it looks completely flat with no contours. How do I get that true to form 3d look? You said its a fake. How did they ‘fake’ it to get a more realistic 3d look?

  • Thanks Julian, that fixed it.

Now on Step 4 they use the Card Dance plugin to create concave and convex shapes (3d face made out of the text image) based on the face image. Does anyone understand how they are doing this? I’m totally lost on how they are doing this, if anyone has an idea I appreciate it.

    Thanks
    Tom

  • Good ideas. It seems both Macromedia MX or Ulead will work for converting it to AVI. However when I try either the output video is WAY faster than it is in flash format. The framerate of the flash video is 40 frames. What can I do to exported it so it plays slower as it does in flash format?

  • Now I see that the 10 second loop point does delay the buttons (first time I rendered it, it didnt). But then when it loop it skips the first 10 seconds of the video. I suppose that is the trade off? Anyway around this?

  • How would setting the loop point delay the appearance of my buttons? All that would be is loop the background video back to 10 seconds and skip the first 10 seconds of the video. I’m not trying to delay the video background at all. I’m trying to delay my buttons from appearing instantly when the menu loads. Any way to do this?

  • So I assume there is no way to use the duplicate menu method if I am using menus that have video backgrounds (ie, the video would never synch up when the menu changes). Correct?
