These reps(and other so called MINI HDV gurus) should stop once and for all
stop raving about how fantastic HDV “toys” are compared to true HD and even decent SD broadcast cameras. This should be made very clear:
HD is not HDV,HDV 1/3′ toy is not comparable to ANY 2/3′ video SD camera on market….
To Sony,Panasonic and other reps(as well as Forum Leaders),if they want to sell High End gear, they should explain very clearly the difference between
different formats as well as different camera equipment.
I am tired of reading some stupid posts about how good Z1 is compared to Cine Alta…these posts are usually written be “gurus” who have never owned decent equipment in their life.
Steve,my comments are not directed to You.

How is it so??
If you have decent budgets where clients require decent picture, especially when You shoot concerts with difficult lighting.
You just can not compare picture from ENG 2/3′ cameras with broadcast lenses and processing to your “toys”.
Only if there is NO budget…well…I better stop now.
I would love to see You “killing” my quality of work done by our cameramen on our equipment by your DVX…
Sorry mate, but there is nothing to compare when it comes to quality….on the other hand when it comes to cost,I am sure You will win.
But is it really step forward??

I talked at SPMTE 05 with Sony Sales.
It is about 35mps,so it is 3 times more compressed then Pana HD.
Personally, speaking of cameras,I like new Pana HDX 400.
It is about US$40,000 and it does in PAL 25p and 50i,NO 24.

Thre is a nice shoulder adaptor from Anton Bauer.

Graeme,
JVC’s BASIC 5.5 zoom lens is CHEAP!They even give away for FREE Wide Lens adaptor for next two months.JVC made very good deal with Fujinon.
What is expansive is 3.5 mm WIDE lens.At $US12,000 it is a lot of many,BUT
standard lens is cheap.
Especially if You compare cost of Z1 to JVChd100(with free adapter).Mate,I like Pana200 and the concept behind it.
I just wish it had another 3 things(please I do not want to start any arguments).
1)Lenses like on JVC hd-100 or upcoming Canon XL-3.
2)Same camera design like JVC-it is great shoulder camera.
3)HDV recording as well. One thing I wish JVC camera had,was nice 1.5′ WF like on Panasonic.
Another great feature on JVC would be P2 with true HD recording.Well I agree you get what You pay for.
Finally Jan(if You are reading this),I must say the best value for my money
in High End is New Pana HDX 400,an excellent value for money.
Kind Regards to You all-jiri vrozina
