[Craig Seeman] “If I downconverted from EX1 it would be to 4:2:2 (DVCPro50, IMX50 maybe) not DVCam (4:1:1) so that might not make any difference superficially but I that might help if one is compositing in SD.”

How do you make picture from EX to DVCPRO50 4:2:2 if EX records 4:2:0?

[Craig Seeman] “I’d thought I’d note that DSR-450 is a 2/3″ CCD chip camera so I’m not surprised its SD looks better than the 330 in many cases.”

F330 has got 1/2′ 1,500 000 pixel block with decent processing.DSR-450 has got megapixel Digi Beta Power head inside.”Problem” is f330 is HD camera not SD camera.

[Craig Seeman] “We “KNOW” that Panasonic is going to have Intra on their next camera (my gut tells me).

    HPX-2000 and HPX-3000 – great cameras!

[Don Greening] “.why not just ask the folks who use the big boy XDCAMs and see what their thoughts are with regard to the SD version of anything they’ve down-converted from HD?”

I am not the big boy but i own f330 xdcam hd.
It records DVCAM as well on disk, quality of that is worse then from DSR-450 DVCAM camcorder.
Downconversion from F330 XDCAM HD 35 to SD/DV is worse then shooting on DSR-450,but it is better then Z1 oringinal.

Original XDCAM HD 35 footage from F330 is OK…18 and 25 is no good.

To sum it all up:HVX200 is better then Z1 and EX1 will be better then HVX200 and 2 years later Panasonic will have HVX300 with INTRA codec and megapixel bloc and 4 years later………

Shoulder cameras are still better but not any people want to carry them and pay for them.

[Michael Slowe] “Also someone wonders whether the down scale quality with the EX is as good as with the HDV Z1. It should be better since it is starting with a better quality image (1/2” block, proper 1920 X 1080, better lens etc).”

Not really….espeacially if one records on to highly compressed HD codec and then downconverts.

[Don Greening] “”Really, really expensive HD recording heads. Not what I want” :)”

Don I meant HDCAM or DigiBeta recording to SxS cards, same as on HVX200-DVCPRO50 or 1080i recording to P2 .

I just wish Sony built into EX1 Digi Beta codec as well and perhaps HDCAM too…:-)

[Don Greening] ” One of the first CMOS cameras was the Sony V1U which was found to have quite a noisy picture in low light.”

    Yes-it is 1/4′ only.

[Don Greening] “Noisy sensors would certainly stop me from buying the EX.”

    Agree 100%.

One final point here especially for users who are delivering SD end product either on DVD or tape.
Make sure your final HD to SD Downconversion does not look worse then current picture from Z1 or HVX-200.

Sony are releasing in October 2 new XDCAM HD cameras f335 and f355 with the same identical block like on f350 and f330.
Why aren’t they using “better” CMOS-like on EX??

You see, there is more to picture then lines, pixels, sensitivity.

    October 2, 2007 at 9:35 pm in reply to: HVX200 versus V1U

[Eric Jurgenson] “If you want a higher resolution picture, go for the V1U. The HVX200 has a limiting resolution of only 500 lines. The V1U is around 800 lines. The upcoming EX1 is over 1000 lines. In a direct A-B comparison, there is significantly more detail in the V1U images as compared to the HVX200.”

My new Sony F330 has got megapixel block,HD recording and latest digital processing..yet my old 7 year Pana 910 has got better SD picture then HD picture from Sony XDCAM HD …..explain why.
All the lines and numbers really mean nothing if at the end of the day picture does not look right.
May I add here that Pana 910 has got better pictures then HPX-500…….only new Pnasonic 2000 is better camera then my old 910. The only explanation for this i have is:
Broadcast Cameras are far superior then INDUSTRIAL ones.
I will have a look at Sony EX in 2 weeks..we will see.
