Correct, M100 can input and output 1080i60 and 720p60 today but nothing at 24p. I can’t help you on the VariCam. As for the look, I think video cameras look like video, but that’s just an opinion.

I’ve seen reports that a corrupted font on your Mac can cause Red to crash. Also check the Boris website, maybe there’s an update to the plugins. 11.5.1 is the latest M100 for PowerPC. It doesn’t seem likely that a raid problem would cause titles to crash, but if that really was the last thing that changed…hey, check your media destinations.

Are you going to shoot at 1080i or 24p? You post seems to say both. According to another post, Media100 demonstrated 24p support at NAB but that isn’t shipping yet, so I don’t know what you’d do with 24p media.

To be precise, Apple is claiming uncompressed HD _quality_, not uncompressed HD, at SD file sizes. The latter sounds like it would be a violation of some law of thermodynamics.

M100 has supported several HD compressed and uncompressed formats since v 11.

Depends on what you want to do, and how powerful your G4 is. You can bring things into Producer and use its new features but then they can’t go back to the old system. But if you’re just exporting the program or mastering to DV, you’re fine. You can get the trial version and see if the workflow and performance are acceptable on your Mac. Make sure you work on copies of your projects, bins and programs or you may not be able to open them again in 8.2.3.

A guess: was the FCP project done in DV? Producer will reinterpret DV-size (480 line) images as 486 lines and the scaling can cause jaggies. You might have to resize the artwork (by adding a few black lines at top and bottom, for example). Or try re-importing the images with different import settings (using the DV codec maybe?).

I think you may need to format the volume. Obviously that will erase everything on it so back it up first!

You can do both, buy the new M100 hardware and run either M100 or FCP on it. All you need is an extra boot disk, about $100.

It might depend on which board you have, but I think the answer is yes, as of 11.5.1

I think Floh might be on vacation now. I’ve never really understood the uninstall – reinstall cycle, but whatever you choose about that, I think 11.5.1 was a minor change from 11.5 with some important bug fixes. I haven’t heard of any compatibility issues but of course your mileage may vary. I don’t think there is any problem with opening files from 11.5.1 back into 11.5 if you decide to roll back your HDe system.
