Dunno – it’s been so long since we had BWF to deal with… the last feature we hand to sync we had to hand sync. 40 hours of footage later you get really fast at matching the sticks up.

They were using a smart slate I’m assuming? Timecode should come right in when you import BWF…

What kind of FCP do you have? Just firewire input? Then you’re pretty much stuck with DVCPRO-HD: which should be more than plenty for a student film.

I’d imagine there will be a new version of FCP annoucned at NAB. ver5 has been around for a long time now. But an Extreme version – I wouldn’t hold my breath, but it would be very welcome. A adreneline based media composer has a lot of great built-in tools that run circles around FCP.

And obviously you made sure the D5 was set for the 9pin to be the controller? Every time I get a D5 rental deck I have to find that buried menu again….

Oh yes, backups scattered all over the studio now…. I’ve been overnight compressing Mpeg-2’s from an HD sequence, and whenever Autosave was on, it seemed to crash out in the middle of the night for no apparent reason.

and I’m a stickler for Autosaving… guess I’ve been getting soft!

I tried opening it on another FCP and got the same message and was ready to stab myself. But a restart on the 1st computer… and it opened.

time to self-medicate. that was uncool.
