Working on a project, had opened Text and was typing… FCP randomly crashes. Now the project file won’t open. I get: Project File is unreadable or version may be too new for this version of Final Cut.

I’m on 5.1.2, and we have a *little* problem that the %$#% Autosave folder was trashed earlier today. So right now I’m assuming SOL and it’s going to be a long long long night….

Any ideas at all? Please? Help!?!?!?

I tried opening it on another FCP and got the same message and was ready to stab myself. But a restart on the 1st computer… and it opened.

time to self-medicate. that was uncool.

Whew indeed. Now back up the project to an external drive or flash drive and get that Autosave vault back! Well, just editing will get that back. Make it autosave every 10-15 min.

    And count your lucky stars.

No doubt autosave is back on and the folders are being backed up on another drive!!

Glad you got it working! I was about to say you could use your latest backup (you do make backups several times a day, right?) or the backup created in the Autosave Vault (saves every 30 minutes by default).

Oh yes, backups scattered all over the studio now…. I’ve been overnight compressing Mpeg-2’s from an HD sequence, and whenever Autosave was on, it seemed to crash out in the middle of the night for no apparent reason.

and I’m a stickler for Autosaving… guess I’ve been getting soft!
