I’ve been running a little 1.5TB G-Speed on my new system. Loving it so far! 220MB/s sustained throughput @ Raid 3. Plenty for 4:2:2 1080. I’m a huge champion of G-Tech products in general.

Yeah, it’ll work. You might just want to export the film as a DV-25 or 50 file from Final Cut. No matter what you do, the Avid will want to convert your media into that “special” Avid version of the same codec… so lot’s of sitting around and waiting for it to import. And since you’re going to beta SP, no tremendous reason to feed the Avid HD files.

The naming convention seems made up by engineers. If the camera man could type in “Asylum” and then it’d just append a number to each successive clip, a ton of work could be saved.
This is probably a dicey idea: but what about taking an entire roll of clips into a timeline, exporting a QT reference, and bringing that back into to Edit/Subclip? Obviously if anything got lost or corrupt, you’d have a lot of work to do getting back to ground zero, but it might not be such a mess. I can say I’ve NEVER used a QT reference in FCP, just seems like you’re asking for trouble, but has anyone given it a whirl?

Oh wait, you’re saying the original material is on HD tapes? So what’s this “transfer” you’re speaking about? A coloring session of the HD selects to digibeta?
If their telecine system wants an EDL for a tape-to-tape transfer, then yes, turn a 30fps edl into 24fps. But if they just want a paper list, then you can give them a 30fps list and they’ll color with handles.
since hours:min:secs are always equivalent in 24 or 30fps, you only really need to worry about precision when you’re doing a final conform and the :frames are numbered differently.

Cinema Tools. Export -> converted EDL. it will convert 30 to 24, and 24 to 30.
