Oliver, could you explain a little more in depth about A-S disabling? It sounds like there IS a way to edit without locking tracks?
For instance, if I turn OFF all the A-S widgets on my timeline and try to do a head trim, I still get “clip colllisiton on A1”. Again this is a final stereo mix that has no explicit relationship to my video. . . .

More features (on/off switch in User Prefs) for experienced editors working at an advanced level:
Clip collisions on A1 when you’re editing video over audio that has nothing to do with video. I get tired of locking down all my audio to trim a head frame. I assume this is to help some people not lose sync down the line with something, but experience editors know full well that clipping 3 frames here will slip something else 5 minutes down the road 3 frames.
And on that note, being able to see video on V1 if you’re trimming on V2 with black on either side.
And a slip feature in the trim window. Ala roll edit in Avid.

I would REALLY like to see a switch that allows you to see the timeline of a sequence loaded into the source monitor.

And I would dearly like to see some customizeable colors. Something easier on the eyes after 10 hours of editing.

Then get the ATI. Like I said, NVIDIA has had more hiccups (in the past) with OSX than ATI.

The basic stock card in the G5 is totally sufficient for Final Cut. Typically the ATI’s have less hiccups that the NVIDIA on the Mac platform.
As long as you trust their RAM, go ahead and put it in. No need whatsoever to reformat or reinstall. Welcome to 95% uptime 🙂 Macs are very good with adding things on and just working.

go to blackmagic and get their 5.0 driver. it’s 100% compatible with the Kona SD. For that matter, AJA will never release drivers for the SD, only blackmagic,

from what i understand, the BM codecs are exactly the same as the Apple codec. So it’s doing exactly what it should do.

hm, I have the same setup except the 2.7G5…. works like a charm. Can you playback a 10bit file with the Blackmagic Deck Control app? Try uninstalling all the BM drivers first and then re-installing? Black Ref?

yes yes, you old hand. You are My point being, if his drive can handle 10bit UC, then it should be handling DV100 just fine. That’s what he was asking about. It can handle 10bit UC, yes only a single stream, but it works just fine.
