The Io doesn’t do the pulldown, it’s handled in software by FCP. It will automatically add 3:2 when you play a 23.98 sequence with the Io connected. Go into System Settings -> Playback Control -> and set your pulldown pattern to 2:3:3:2 for a regular 3:2 setting.

another fix I’ve been using on the last 3 jobs i had to online that were offlined in fcp 5.
Export an XML v1, open it in FCP 4.5, use Media Manager there, open resulting project in FCP 5. This works fine for speed changes, Basic Motion, and Crop settings. Just used it to do a music video that opens on 25 little picons of video, down to 16, down to 8, etc….

.. . . . . . yes, i’m working in 8 bit. like i said, it worked, then it stopped working after ETT. after it stopped working the only way to get a dissolve to work was to force the “Full” RT effect to render. this is not a consistant problem. that’s what’s bugging the f*** out of me. there’s nothing i can specifically point to that I’ve done or the machine has done that’s causing this. i’ve had problem earlier this week with dissolves and Text3D.
i can do a dissolve right now in my timeline and it works. but i could turn around tomorrow and find it glitches.

it’s not a consistent problem. like i said, it worked, then after an ETT, it stopped. it may also be particular to working in 8 and 10 bit uncomrpessed timlimes. there’s so many variables, trying it once doesn’t prove system stability.

I honestly don’t know if FCP 5 is so much buggy as a whole combination of QT 7, Tiger, Blackmagic Drivers, and FCP 5. Guys on AJA Io systems in house can’t replicate these problems. But then again, sometimes I can’t replicate the problem on my own system.

It worked when the director was in, but when I went to ETT, it stopped working. I need a complete re-install from the ground up and hope that cleans out some of the gremlins. But this is a really trim system to being with….

It’s there. I physically see it. I can remove the dissolve and put a new one in…. no go unless hard commit to disk. I’ve been using FCP since version 2, and in a professional edit house since ver 3 – It’s not pilot error this time. I *wish* it was. Then i wouldn’t be so paranoid. Cross dissolve has worked fine in this situation for over 100 projects, but since coming to 5, there are gremlins everywhere.

duh. when you load from a 30fps tape, even if you are stripping the file down to 23.98 on the fly, FCP still tries to assign the 30fps timecode to the new media. so it skips frames. The answer is to find a :00 frame (which is always constant) and Modify->timecode and restipe your master clips with clean 24fps TC.

well, if you load them native as DVCPRO-HD it’ll work off of any 7200 rpm firewire 400. I’d suggest a striped FW800 for multiple streams and extra overhead (Like a G-RAID)
