EDL HELP!!!! Emergency
Ok. I have a 19 layer timeline, prepping an EDL for the effects house. One EDL per video layer.
I loaded DVCAM downconverions of 1080/23.98 – loaded them without 3:2 so I have matching timecode to the D5. Working in a 23.98 DV timeline.
My CMX3600 EDL is completely wrong on Source Timecode. The IN points are drifting anywhre between 8 frames and 10 seconds. For instance, my second event reads on the EDL as 01:16:30:23 – when in FCP the clip starts at 01:01:30:14. FCP has all the correct timecodes, I can match frame anywhere in the edit, and I have the correct TC to match burn in. The EDL has a note reflecting the 24p timecode….
Anyone have any ideas? This is the first time I’ve tried to do a 24p EDL, vs a 30 and converting it with Cinema Tools.

duh. when you load from a 30fps tape, even if you are stripping the file down to 23.98 on the fly, FCP still tries to assign the 30fps timecode to the new media. so it skips frames. The answer is to find a :00 frame (which is always constant) and Modify->timecode and restipe your master clips with clean 24fps TC.

… and I wish there was a way to convert/ripple timecode of many clips at the same time in FCP. Changing timecode clip by clip is tedious. Of course Avid’s EDL Manager (which you can download of avid’s website btw) can ripple and convert source and record TC to anything, but it doesn’t work with speed changes, so they get broken.
