March 23, 2010 at 9:57 pm in reply to: importing .mov = crash??

Thanks for the quick response. Everything was set to the defaults, I dont usually mess with a lot of the settings. I double checked and multiprocessing was turned off. I tried turning it on and get the same results. Open GL is not enabled. Im running 64 bit with 8 gb of ram so I should be able to handle the clips with ease. Im currently running CS3.
It seems to be importing the clips that crashes AE.

September 15, 2008 at 7:55 am in reply to: Memory/cashe help! Cant render!

My system is a windows pc laptop (xp), 4 gigs of ram (though it only reads 3.25 because Im not on a 32-bit system…I think), Intel Core Duo processor and an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS video card. Basically a powerful laptop gaming system.

I read the AE Help guide on memory/cashe and went back to the default settings. This atleast allowed me to render a short clip without crashing, but my previews are still horrible. Is there an easy way to determine the optimum memory/cashe settings for my computer?

  • Wow, that was pretty easy, thanks for the help Filip 😀
I cant believe I over looked that before haha. I stumbled across a longer route, which was to set the work area beginning and ending to a frame or two, export as an image sequence with millions of colors+ which gave an alpha…but your suggestion worked beautifully.

Id recommend Tradcode’s Particular plugin. Its a very detailed and flexible particle emitter.
Ive tried smoke footage but have always come back to Particular.

August 12, 2007 at 9:51 pm in reply to: Muzzel Flash Tutorial

I know some have created muzzel flashes with smoke using fractal noise with/without the evoultion keyframed. I havent made one like this before but I believe on one of the cds from videocopilot.com they have a custom muzzel flash tutorial. But the secret was a masked (shaped) fractal noise with maybe some coloring/glowing corrections.
    Hope that helps!

[sandman01] “This is the site : https://www.ssontech.com/index.html , if you want to check it;)”

I checked out their site and went to their web tutorials, which had a tutorial for exporting and setting up tracking info in AE. https://www.ssontech.com/content/setoae.htm

Although it is a program I havent used yet, it was very helpful for answering some of my questions on how to setup the layers in AE. Bit by bit Im getting the hang of this.

    Thanks for the link!
I hope that tutorial will help some other people too.

[Darby Edelen] “Imagineer’s products all use planar tracking, which is subtly different than 3D/point tracking”

Ahh, that would explain some of the issues I had. Good to know.
But at any rate, this 3d tracking seems like a challenge but really really awesome at the same time.

Based on the videos Ive seen online (youtube), it looks like the 3d tracking works more smoothly and automatically in 3d apps, rather than AE. I suppose that all depends on the shot, the track quality and your knowledge of the program!

I was slightly surprized when I could not find any real information or tutorials for 3d tracking info being exported for use in AE. Hopefully one of these days one such tutorial will appear, until then Ill just poke around and see what kind of 3d trouble I can get myself into :).

Ive been trying to experiment with some 3d motion tracking/match moving but havent had much luck. I know some good 3rd party programs are Boujou, some of the Imaginner Systems’ programs and a few others.

I really want to 3d track a shot and add particular to it.

Maltaannon, your tutorials have helped a ton and Im anxiously looking forward to a tutorial on this challenge of 3d tracking!
