if you are using the drive for video in FCp then it MUST be mac formated. The only disc format that is fully supported (read & write) on both win & mac is FAT 32 and it is a very slow format.

you say you will be editing it so just add the the timecode reader filter in Final Cut Pro

just because your frame rate and audio match up douse not meen that the video settings match the timeline setting, if your time line is set yo DV NTSC and you have converted the video to say a h264, or animation codec it will need to be rendered.

I got one of these for my FX1 and love it, but alot of it is going to be a personal choice, get what fits your shooting style better.

(oh the front handel comes off, who would want a handel coming out of it like that I dont know)

I would not say that what you are using is overkill, your render and conforming times will be light-years faster then liams ibook

you cannot capture video from the FX1 that shows the time via firewire. You will need to ether capture it with analog or add the ime code reader filter in FCP.

The eazy way to give a raw copy with timecode on it to your client for review would be to hook up the camera via anolog conections to a DVD recorder and lat it do its thing. To capture and then incode a DVD would just be way to time consuming,
