tv-out ideas + bare bones g4
Hi guys,
Just want to get a couple ideas from you experts–
I need to get FCP 5.1 running on another mac computer for a seriously bare bones alternate workstation. So I’m looking for what inexpensive, yet functional mac computer option I should go with. No need for a g5 here. I’ll be doingf basic capture with minor effect applications. No HD, no uncompressed BetacamSP, just straight DV or DV50. I will need however a decent hard drive, at least 1 gb ram, and a superdrive to run DVDSP. Should I get a g4, or can I get away with a new Mac mini? Which is the better course of action?
secondly, I’ll need to video preview to an NTSC monitor. Once again, minimal cost here. Don’t need to utilize an AJA IO or similar capture box (again all capture will be via firewire). I just need to see a decent NTSC preview for Final Cut. Is there a recommended good Video card with a TV OUT someone can recommend, or another option. Is there a way to trick the DVI-OUT to feed a FCP sequence preview to an NTSC monitor with a special cable? Willing to think outside the box.
Thanks Again. Happy Holidays!
