    Here’s my dilemma:
I’ve got a new 300g Seagate firewire/usb drive. When I format it and write to it on a Quad G5 it’s not recognized when connected to a WinXP PC. When I format the drive in WinXP, it IS recognized by the G5, but I can’t write to it – no permissions. However, re-format it on the Mac and it’s writeable.

I tried to reformat the drive in Windows, creating 2 partitions, without formatting the second partition. Same problem – the G5 will mount and recognize, but no write access. Plus the drive appears as a single partition on the G5.

I guess the word at this point is HELP…

    Thanks

if you are using the drive for video in FCp then it MUST be mac formated. The only disc format that is fully supported (read & write) on both win & mac is FAT 32 and it is a very slow format.

    Use this product:
    https://www.mediafour.com/products/
You format the drive for Mac and this product, MacDrive,
installs on a PC and recognizes the Mac formatted drive.
There are other products, but this is the most common I think.

    Thanks to all…

First, the drive will not be used as a media drive in FCP, just to backup files. While the 2 previously created WinXP partitions were not recognized on the G5, going into the Mac Drive Utility was the solution. I was able to format the second partition there, and it seems to have left the PC partition intact.

And Amazon is having a special on MacDrive for $24.99, so I ordered it earlier (there’s also a five day free trial on the MacDrive website).

Does anyone know why MacDrive6 is only available in the US?

All the sites I’ve visited say “only shipped within the US”

In in UK and the only reference I can find to it over here is a – no longer available add on Amazon.co.uk for MacDrive2000

    Thanks Alan

    Because it’s 60hz 120v? Sorry, couldn’t resist. I don’t know why.
