Personally I think you should have stood your ground and told the client that because they wanted an excessive amount of editing to cover up for the way a client talks, that they need to pay for that.

However one thing that you can do in the future to protect yourself is to put into your contract that after the initial edit, that the client can do a preview and make requests for changes. Then state that any additional changes that are requested after the initial preview will be billed at your hourly rate.

This way they just cant keep asking to have things changed.

I don’t know about auto play, but you can pick up a good one with a firewire input for about $150 at Circuit City or Best Buy/

you cant network a windows computer through firewire. And even if you could you said they are 40 miles apart. How big are the files you are sending.

“as long as I can find a place to physically mount it in the G4 case”

I would avoid putting more internal drives then the computer was built to hold. Doing so can cause your computer to get to hot inside and the heat can fry the logic board.

Don’t judge it by viewing it the computer screen. You are watching interlaced footage on a non interlaced screen, watch it on a interlaced screen to judge it.

You say you have FCP 5.1 but not DVD SP, FCP only comes in the Final Cut Studio bundle that includes DVD SP.

I NEVER let DVD SP do the encode (or iDVD for that matter) the results are never as good as running the video through compressor first, I I don’t know if iDVD will accept compressed files from compressor though.

Honestly I don’t know if there is a size limit. Personally I would keep the large 500 GB drive as a media drive (you said you use FC Studio)

Also if you can you might want to conceder returning the ATA drive and consider putting that money toward a new computer, I just looked at your specs of your computer and no offense bit it is a bit old. Older computer do have a higher risk of going out on you, and if it douse any time soon, a ATA drive will only be good in an external enclosure because all the new computer have SATA.
