Rendered clips have interlacing probems… what gives?!

for motion quality to be fast, good or best.

make sure its set for best.

I learned the hard way not to trust fcp for doing such things so
I do all of that kind of thing in after effects.

Pictures even still ones can look really ugly if they are not downsized to near D1 sizes
before being dropped into a timeline.

Don’t judge it by viewing it the computer screen. You are watching interlaced footage on a non interlaced screen, watch it on a interlaced screen to judge it.

You say you have FCP 5.1 but not DVD SP, FCP only comes in the Final Cut Studio bundle that includes DVD SP.

I NEVER let DVD SP do the encode (or iDVD for that matter) the results are never as good as running the video through compressor first, I I don’t know if iDVD will accept compressed files from compressor though.

Hi Fletch,
I agree with Randy. You need to play your DVD in a TV or monitor to be sure that has got interlacing problems. In your computer screen may look horrible but in a TV can look great.

Do you have any DV camera around still? Many DV cameras will play DV timelines out firewire to a TV. It’s not a pro monitor solution, but it could really help you figure out the the heck is happening.

Just as a note, panning photos and doing speed changes often look horrible in FCP in our pro set up too. We also rely on After Effects or Shake for these types of things. As far as your dissolves go, I don’t have a clue what would be causing those to gitter.

I found the setting in the Audio/Video Settings -/ Sequence Preset Editor -/ Video Processing tab.

I see that I can select “Best” in the Motion Filtering Quality drop down box.
Also I can select render all YUV material in high-precision YUV

My question is, will these settings work in the exisiting project once they are changeed or do I have to do something, to bring everything into a new project?

They will work in the existing project. It will dump all of your render files.
