what are you capturing from, many HDV cameras and decks also have the ability to down-convert to SD, make sure it is set to output HDV.

also try connecting the monitors to a different computer if the issue persists then it is defiantly the monitor, it if only happens connected to your computer then it is most likely the video card.

Well if they are close enough then you just have them come over and view it. Places like yousendit.com are good, but you should compress it so that the file size is smaller. And depending on them length of the video sending them a DVD may be the best option.

You said that you used some software to help with heat, if this software is in anyway changing the speed of the fans then it can actually do more harm to the computer them good. I have seen software like that where fans out prematurely.

Video shot in HDV can look much better then standard definition video (if you shoot right). I always say garbage in garbage out. The better the original looks the better the end result will look.

As far as wether or not you should get a XL2 or a XHA1 I say go test each out and see which you like better. Also look into other cameras you may end up liking a Sony camera better.

Douse your video have a lot of black or dark areas, even good compression can easily be seen in blacks and dark areas.
